Woodchip-how to get rid of it

We have this all over our new place and it is yuck.What to do?

I've always steamed it off. Luckily it's always come off relatively easily but often the plaster has needed skimming underneath.

Could one just wallpaper over first and then paint?

You can't paper over wood chip. It's much too bumpy. You need to strip it off. As some said it can take plaster off and you may need to re skim the walls. Hire a steamer stripper if you want to do this. It makes the job much easier.

Thanks very much indeed. How much would a pro charge me to do this?
Small hall, bedroom and medium lounge? About £25 an hour
