would a roller blind look odd

Hello,

We are finally having our rotten sliding door replaced with French doors.

I'm thinking about how to dress them practically as the curtains we have at the moment are mouldy at the bottom from the damp creeping in, and I am tired of trying to keep them clean with two under 5 dirt magnets stomping about the place. The doors are in the dining room and are the only ones that lead to the garden, so you can imagine the food/craft/mud that they get exposed to! My house is a tiny two bed, I cant be doing with avoidable grot.

Would it look odd if I just had a roller blind above the doors? It sounds so practical being able to whip it up out of harms way during the day and rolling it down in the evening. I can't say I've seen it done before?

Any other solutions?

Is no window coverings a possibility?

We have a huge roller blind across sliding patio doors and it looks great. When the blind is up, it is hidden behind a "pelmet" and then we roll it down in the evening for privacy. Like you I wasn't sure about having such a huge roller blind but our options for window coverings were limited, e.g. we could only have perfect fit blinds on the two panes of glass which would not be affected by the sliding door (there are three panels, only two could have the perfect fit blind). We could have chosen traditional curtains but with radiators either side of the patio door, these would have been covered by the curtains when pulled back. Vertical blinds would also have been possible, but my DH thinks they look too office like and a bit old fashioned.

I'll try to upload a photo tonight when I get home from work.

Just moved into a house with quite a few rollers, I reserved judgment as I've never had them, now I love them and we have them over patio doors, like you say, they're up and out of way during day and down at night. Go for it

Thank you for your replies! After your reassurances I will go for a roller blind. Really cannot wait.
