I'm not sure. I have used gloss and eggshell on our radiators and they look good.

Emulsion isn't going to cover well.

Emulsion for walls and ceilings gloss or eggshell for wood and metal.

If the rad was white but is just discoloured then sugar soap it instead.

Oke doke

The walls were a sort of dark coffee brown paint colour and are now yellow silk emulsion and they painted the radiator the same dark coffee colour

So we will use a white gloss paint then same as skirting board

Thank you so much for your help SmileSmileSmileSmile

Aw the coffee coloured radiator sounds lovely. .......

If you want white (and radiator is under a window in the shade) go for eggshell it doesn't seem to need the sunshine to stay white like gloss does these days.

don't forget to stick coat hangers with dusters on down the back to get rid of dust groobers so they don't jump out and stick to brush Grin

I used matt emulsion to match my radiator with the one wall, it was fine. Burgundy.

I have painted my radiators with the same paint (F&B) as I've used on the walls. It's not silk though - it's matt. But no issues with coverage. All the rads in my house have been painted to match the walls - I assume using the same paint

Sand the radiator first,

I have just googled this. Apparently enamel radiator paint is better than standard gloss paint because it produces optimum heat. The more non enamel paint you put on the less performance you will get from your radiator. Also, the heat from the radiator will cause non radiator paint to discolour and crack more quickly.

I would just pay a few extra £££ for proper radiator paint and do the job properly.

WOW you guys are all amazing SmileSmileSmileSmile

Good point about the amount of heat coming off from the radiator can be changed by the paint we use

Actually looking round the house at the radiators - we will buy the special paint cos the hall one has been painted like the walls which is a sort of orange/peach colour which is also deffo going to be changed soon.

So we are going to need to paint at least 2 large radiators

DS radiator is under his window that faces East so very sunny in the morning but it would be in the shade iyswim

Have to say I have painted lots of radiators with emulsion and it works fine. Better on radiators you don't brush past all the time, but fine.

Can I recommend eggshell paint for your skirting boards? I have recently been converted - it goes on much more easily and looks so, so good! Smile

I painted them with a low shine gloss. You can buy special radiator paint.

I always just do them the same as the walls
