Living room with arch

Any suggestions on how to paint this room - Would a colour below the rail look odd because of the arch? Would it be better to ignore the arch and paint the room in the same colour up to the ceiling or just paint the whole room white?

Also any ideas on how to arrange furniture would be good - there is a fireplace on the long wall on the right side of the photo and the doorway is in the middle of the wall where the picture was taken from.

We had the same problem and ended up painting the whole room the same colour including the arch. I'm happy with it!i thought it would look a bit odd with the arch cutting through the picture rail.
Not sure about furniture it looks like beyond the arch is quite small. Ours is a living room and dining room knocked through so 2 large rooms. Similar arrangement though. We have the Tv on a low stand next to the fireplace and a long sofa on the opposite wall. Also a cabinet the other side of the fireplace. Our bay window is where your door is.

Thank you, that's a similar arrangement to what I had in mind, maybe with an armchair if I can fit one in. There is only about a metre beyond the arch so not sure if we will put anything there, maybe some toy storage.

Sounds good!we have an arm chair next to the sofa and bay window. The other half is seems to have evolved into a toy room!have a little sofa in there and a toy box.

Would anyone remove the picture rail? It's actually quite low on the wall and I wanted to wallpaper up to the ceiling. I don't generally like to remove features but it isn't really working with what I had in mind..
