Net curtain recommendations?

I live in a street with a narrow road that feels very over-looked. I know nets are considered old fashioned now, but I need privacy and I don't think blinds offer that (I can definitely see the neighbour who enjoys peeking through hers!)

The nets I have up now are quite a loose pattern, as well as belonging to a former tenant, and I want something nice but also something where I can see and not be seen. Is voile more effective than net?
