Modern or retro Chandelier ideas

Am I being mad in hoping for some nice Chandeliers for under £500 each?
I don't want huge ones but I'm buying an old house with very high ceilings and I think my silly dwell type pendant lights will look ridiculous in the big open hall and downstairs dining rooms.

Especially for the hall I'd like something with a bit of wow but without raiding my furniture budget too much.

Any ideas?
