How long before painting on new plaster?

I've read several different things about the length of time that you need to leave it before painting on new plaster from 'until it's dried' to 4 weeks. Does anyone have any experience with this?

You need to let it dry and then prime it.

Was it just a skim or browned too?

Skim is the pink stuff that goes over plaster board, evens out bumps.
Browning is the thicker stuff that goes on bare bricks.

24 - 36 hours it will be light pink and dry, then size it (wallpaper paste diluted) or it will just soak up the paint.

Size is just an undercoat, you can use pva glue and water too. It's just a base to stop the plaster being porous.

If you have had damp or any mould issues leave it 36 hrs to be certain.

Thank you, good to know I don't have to wait too long!. No damp issues. I've seen decorators saying that you shouldn't use PVA but a diluted emulsion for the first coat of pain

Use watered down emulsion- piglet john says so!

Pva has gone out of fashion because if it's too strong (too much glue) it can make the paint look patchy.

A small bag of wallpaper paste is cheapest and easiest, it h a s the mix quantity on the back but I just use pva because it's in the shed Grin
