Blackout curtains not blacking out all

Is this the standard for blackout curtains? I bought these because they were listed in the category 'blackout', and it's also mentioned on the packaging, but to me this is not blackout at all. I appreciate you will get light around the edges, but I thought blackout curtains were supposed to have a thick lining.

It doesn't bother me so much, but DP wakes up far too early during the summer months. Is doubling up with a blind our only option?

That certainly isn't what I'd call blackout. We bought blackout lining from John Lewis which you just hang on the same curtain hooks as your normal curtains, works a treat.

That's no good. We tacked extra lining onto our curtains. Just buy some from eBay. We have blackout roller blinds and blackout curtains. We hate light!!!

I could get some extra lining and do that myself I suppose. It's just so frustrating as I love the colour (between duck egg blue & a blue teal) and it's the first time I have managed to pick a blue that isn't dark blue without DP hating it.

That, or install a blind as well as the curtains. Not keen on the pencil pleat style so will need to find a solution which works with eyelets.
