Trying to decorate a living room in casual style and cant decide whether to mount TV on wall or place it on entertainment unit.

Room size : 13'7" - 12'
Tv size: 55inch
There is Chimney breast but no fireplace
TV will be in front of chimney breast or mounted on chimney breast
Furniture: either oak or painted (grey/cream)

I like furniture better than hung on the wall but with a room that size it might make more sense to put it up and have the floor space.

Yes for putting TV on entertainment unit, i need around 130cmx45cm size unit. Even if i put it on wall, still need around 110x30 cm unit to go under it to put the sound bar, dvd player, all sorts of remote etc. So there is a difference but not a lot. DH says even those few cms will make a difference.

i wish i had some furniture to put in room and get a feel. Have laid down newspapers etc but still cant decide.

TVs on walls are a pain in a semi of terrace. Wouldn't hang if on a party wall without soundproofing first or expect complaints!

thanks vienaa and Lagoonablue. I am in a detached property so hoping no noise complaints.

If the option is on the breast or infront of the breast then definetly on it. If on a unit, it looks neater and is less invasive if in an alcove.

We have ours on the chimney breast and where the "fire" would have beeen houses our Virgin Box etc.

for mounting on the wall, what kind of handyman should I look for and where?

It may be worth bearing in mind that decent brackets for wall mounted TVs are expensive and a pain to fit (IME).

Personally I would prefer a tv in a cupboard so it cannot be seen when not in use. TVs are ugly and should be hidden away.
