Curtains for short gap between window and radiator in lounge?

We want new curtains in our lounge, but I can't decide what's best, because of the short gap between the window and the radiator. We want to keep the heat in, and end up tucking our current curtains behind the radiator when they are closed. I really want to avoid that if we get new curtains!

I know one option is to have them only go to the sill, but I'm worried we'll have trouble getting them to look even, since nothing in this house seems to be straight.

Maybe a roller blind? Are there places where we could get a blind made to match patio window curtains? (Unfortunately, DH doesn't like roman blinds.)

Any other ideas? I attached a photo of the windows in our lounge.

A wood venetian perhaps? You wouldn't need the nets then.

I had a roller blind made with curtain fabric and it wasn't very succesful. It was too stiff to sit right. If you want fabric, Romans really are your best bet.

I'd consider plantation shutters. They are supposed to be insulating when shut too!!

burnishedsilver, Thanks for warning me that the blind made from curtain fabric didn't work well.

A wood venetian sounds like a good idea. I like plantation shutters, but I don't think they'd look right with our house. (We used to live in an area with lots of Victorian houses with bay windows and I loved the shutters with those.)

Thanks!
