Magic bed required

Hi bed-sourcing fairies if you're out there...

So for various reasons too stupid to list co-sleeping dd, possible sibling on the way, elderly and infirm DPs who visit once a month, 6' 3" dh who occasionally uses spare room (see co-sleeping dd), dd's tiny current room I am converting our spare room into DD's room but it still needs to accomodate various others. So I need a bed which -

Has no end piece (see stupidly tall DH)
Converts into a proper double (see elderly DPs who still like to be close in the night)
Will normally be OK to use as a sofa-ish daybed cum single for a 3.5 yo (see DD)
Will not be too wide when a double to fit into a 170-180cm-ish space
Will not be stupidly expensive
Is sturdy and well built

I think that's it. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks so much in advance if so :)

My inlaws have twin beds (normal 3' ones, i think) which they can attach to each other (there's a hook to attach one frame to the other) and then they put a mattress topper on top and a double sheet on top of that and it makes a double bed.

Now the bed doesn't fold away, but i would have thought you could do something similar with those single beds that have a rolling single underneath, which pings up to make a full size bed if you wanted.

how about something like this? It looks sofa-y, you could use a mattress topper to make a comfortable double bed, and your dp could slide out the underneath bed if he needed to sleep in there. Sorted. Next!

I think dh would use as a single so that's why I haven't wanted a traditional daybed shape with ends (iyswim?) 'cos he won't get on that as a single.

Will ikea one fall apart or are they ok?

We are planning to get Ikea Brimnes for DS and to use as occasional guest bed. It's not fantastic build quality but will do and has a clean simple look which I like. If you find something similar elsewhere let us know!

we got something like this (but cheaper and no headboard)

we used it as a sofa - rolled up pillows/duvet in cushions/lot's of cushions etc to make back and sides. very comfy! Not sure you would bother if your dd regularly sleeps in it though as the cushions will end up on the floor!

it is a little high but when we had a little one sleeping in it we pulled the underbed out half way to give a soft landing!

Guests always comment on how comfortable it is and the older guests say it is really easy to get in because it is a little higher

We also have an ikea hemnes day bed which i love less - it's ok for kids but the mattresses don't stay on very well and it isn't very comfy as a sofa either.

Oooh that 'vogue regatta' looks good. Is it durable? It needs to be because of the lax parenting leading to mucho bouncing

well ours has survived 4 years now - i don't think the pull out bed would take much bouncing but the main bed is fine and sturdy.

The key thing we wanted was 2 singles that could be put together to make a big bed so that we had the flexibility with guests.
