Anyone a fan of French beds?

I've just put in an offer on eBay for an antique French king size bed. It's got a lovely carved headboard, side rails and foot end.
I love antiques but I've never owned an antique or vintage bed.
Have I made a good choice? If my offer is accepted, it's going to be significantly cheaper than this reproduction that I've been seriously tempted to buy

Love them. I'm getting one for my 40th this summer.

Yes, I've got an antique French king size bed and love it.

If it helps I bought mine at the french depot they have an ebay store. I went to their warehouse before buying just as I happen to be in the area and they have a huge warehouse full of amazing furniture and are alot cheaper than anywhere else I found.

The one in the link doesn't have a foot end. OH loathes beds with foot ends as he is tall and his feet hang over the end of the bed, even king sized ones.

Adore them. Does the one you've bid for come with a base though? Lots don't seem to.

I've bought the antoinette from loaf, similar to the feather and black one you linked but it has a footboard. And it's cheaper.

It does come with a base and it takes a king size mattress which is unusual for French vintage beds.
My IKEA metal bedstead suddenly looks very unappealing!

Sounds lovely. Fingers crossed!

If you miss out look at loaf.com

What do you do if the bed you like doesn't have a base, like the ones in the frenchdepot link?

I think try sell them separately. There's a French reclaim eBay shop that will manufacture a base for a bed, don't now how much though. That and the uncertain degree if squeak sent me to loaf for a repro version.

Thanks, I'll definitely check it out. I don't think my teenage daughter would appreciate a squeaky bed Grin

BOF we bought the slats from here and DH did it. He's no good at DIY so it can't be that hard! He just screwed some bits of wood to the inside of the bed base and then we got the slats from the website made to measure and it fitted perfectly. It was I think around £150 or so for our king size bed.

Right now I know how easy this is to solve (the bed base problem I mean) DD is definitely getting a gorgeous french bed when she's big enough to come out of her toddler bed.
