Oh god, I'm boring myself but please help me choose a bathroom floor...

We have a odd kind of mismatching-eclectic bathroom planned. Old washstand painted bright pink, flower power wallpaper on two walls, green wall lights, general whimsy. (Do I sound like a twat?) We've come to the conclusion that really the tiles need to be white so that if we decide in two years that we want an oasis of calm after all we can adapt it. But the floor is a problem...

I don't want tiles (too cold). We have Karndean downstairs which is fab so it's either vinyl or laminate I think. There is a Karndean that looks like old white painted floorboards which I really like, but I'm worried about too much white. Or should it be a wood tone? Or (curveball) would I be mad to consider a black and white checked floor? I love them but could it be too much?

Opinions please before I drive myself mad!

black and white checked floor is an absolute classic. Not mad in any way, sound sperfect!

I'm going for walnut Karndean - looks lovely against floral print and colour

Ooh, I wasn't expecting that many votes for black and white! Anyone know if I can do it in high quality vinyl?

this is the wallpaper if that helps.

DH is concerned about checked floor + pink washstand. It's really, really pink. Grin

MrsLettuce I have been looking at tile stickers! I take it you're not averse to a bit of whimsy yourself? Grin

oh, and tell DP checkered flooring is very masculine and will balance the pink just right.

Wow your bathroom sounds gorgeous Thistle, can we have a pic when it's finished (for inspiration)?

With that wallpaper I would go with wood 'look'

There are brown tones in the print and as it doesn't appear to be bright white, the black and white would make the wallpaper look grubby

It's a really nice wallpaper do I think you need to compliment rather than clash

It would still be querky though Grin

It is a white background, I got a sample of it. I take your point about the brown tones though. Wood(ish) is the safer option but would still look good. I have no idea what wood tones go with bright pink though!

Walnut is indeed great with hot pink and most colours actually. We had it all through at our old place, miss it terribly.

except in the bathroom which had horrid, cold tiles. Actually.
