Hi all

DMIL has ended up in hospital seriously ill, in Spain they travelled before it was on amber.

They are both in their 70's DfIl is beside himself, doesn't know what to do, doesn't speak any Spanish, can't visit her in hospital.

Planning for DH to fly out tomorrow so he can support them both but trying to figure out exactly what we need to do.

From what I can gather he will need to do a LAMP test as the results come back quicker? Is there another type of test he can do or one that is definitely allowed in Spain.

Just trying to get my head around all the rules, he will need to do location forms and test before he flies, he will only be there for 3 days so thinking he won't need to do a test whilst he's there?

Then on return he will need to test and isolate for 10 days but can do a test on day 5 for potential early release?

He also needs to fill out location form and other form before he flies and then again on return to uk?

Is there anything else we need to do? Sorry this is garbled but I am panicking a bit. We had planned to avoid travel at all costs this year.

OP a similar thing happened to my DM years ago and I remember the total panic and that was before covid came into the equation.

If he's not vaccinated he'll need a fast turnaround test. He can get this in the airport.

Fill out the passenger locator form ad order the release tests too.

Don't forget travel insurance too.

I know ti's is small comfort but my DM had amazing care in Spain. They saved her life basically. Wishing your DMIL a speedy recovery.

Thanks so much @Sallycinnamum , so bloody worrying, we can't seem to get much information on how she's doing; hopefully DH will get out there tomorrow. Thanks again.

Have you rung their insurance emergency assistance company? They will be liaising with the hospital and should be able to update you on the medical details.

@Newnormal99 we've just been assigned a translator which has helped massively and waiting for the results of an MRI. It's probably more DfIl at this stage that needs the extra suppprt with him not being able to go into the hospital and not knowing anybody. Thanks so much for replying

Firstly is he double vaccinated? If he is all you need is nhs app downloaded.
He needs to do his passenger locator form for Spain ASAP.
Then he can just go.
If he is not double jabbed he needs a - ve test, and if he flying tomorrow you'll need to get a test done with on the day results.
Try the airport clinics they'll get results back quickly.
Once he knows he is coming back he will need to do a lft 72 hrs before return to UK.
There are loads of clinics in Spain he can get it done at.
He will need to book day 2 and day 8 tests for in the UK.

Randox seem good and OK price.
He then fills in plf for UK, putting in reference number of his booked tests (this is provided when you book and pay for them) and flies home.

When you say a bit less how many days off a fortnight?

If its literally a day I'd delay flying until the 14 days are up to make it easier.
But appreciate he wants to get there ASAP.
But for coming home hell just need his lft done in Spain and a day two test here
.. Needs to hook that prior to doing plf for UK return.
He then won't have to isolate here
