What's it like in France at the moment?

Would it be mad to come on a (long planned) holiday from UK first two weeks of august? We can still cancel but I don't want to!

It's lovely and sunny and almost back to normal (for now).

Lots of our local restaurants and bars haven't reopened though so going out can be a bit of a bind.

Thanks. It's become a bit of a moot point as DH has now said that he doesn't want to risk it (not sure what - getting stuck?) I'm in Italy and it sounds similar to here but we are in a city so I think it would actually be safer in France!

I am in France, in the countryside. Things are feeling pretty normal at the moment, but Macron has recently announced that it will soon be compulsory for people to show proof of vaccination or a negative test (no longer free) for any events where there are more than 50 people - so night markets etc. This is due to come into effect imminently but I think kids are exempt. They are still thrashing out the final details as it is obviously a bit of an administrative nightmare and therefore there may be some slippage in the dates. They have already backtracked on the eye watering fines for organisers/cafe owners.

Until recently masks were compulsory anywhere outside but this has now been relaxed. You still need a mask at markets and in shops or other crowded places. Also for when you are moving around inside bars and restaurants.

This is the most recent update www.france24.com/en/france/20210719-france-adjusts-plans-for-covid-19-health-pass-announces-fourth-wave-of-epidemic

Not sure I have been massively helpful as it is all a bit up in the air at the moment. Infection rates are rising fast, but deaths seem to be staying low for the moment.

We're thinking of going for a few days next week. We're both double jabbed and we live in the EU not too far from the border so I don't think it is logistically a problem but not sure if it is a good idea or irresponsible or what things are like in France in general at the moment! We would be in the countryside. Is anyone in France at the moment?
