Greece in September, where to go?

We need to re-book some (cancelled-due-to-covid) flights for later in the year and it has to be Greece. We were originally going to Rhodes but wondering if somewhere else would be nicer. I really fancy Kefalonia but the flight times from my local airport are dreadful - we'd get in at 10.20 pm and fly back at 11pm....is it worth it? Other options are Rhodes of course, Zante, Santorini or Crete. What we are looking for is quiet, nice beaches and views, great food. An advice, mumsnetters?

We’ve just moved our flights to next year. The number of PCRs you have to pay for, the self isolation rules and the fluid situation just seem too big a gamble. Pig sick, it cost us a bomb to move them.

My children talk about Crete like it is paradise. I like it too and hope to go again one day (not this year). We went to some beautiful beaches.

I am hoping to go to Kefalonia one day, it looks beautiful. I liked Panormos in Crete - small fishing village with two beaches and some more traditional restaurants - a bit of a journey from the airport though.

Crete, chania region. We had a villa in Vamos and it was paradise. It's very much a greek village with tavernas and the most beautiful views of the mountains. The sound of the cicadas coming to life when eating breakfast and drinking coffee on the terrace is one of my favourite memories.

A car is essential but gives you the opportunity to see and do so much.

Went to Greece two weeks ago. Returned last week. Visited Athen, Agistri and Santorini. Great to visit Santorini at this time cos it's not at all crowded. Agistri is a lovely Island. Santorini isn't known for beaches but it does have a few.

Crete is utterly gorgeous and is the southern most point, so gets the warmest weather. I always go in April and September and it’s really lovely

Depending on how long you're going for you could combine Santorini with island hopping to Naxos via ferry. Naxos beaches are beautiful and there's lots to do! Agree with @Delectable, it's a great time to see Santorini at the moment. We went last September, no cruise ships, so extremely peaceful. The beaches aren't the best as volcanic so hard and hot under foot!

Great time to go to Santorini, and it’s so beautiful the lack of white beaches doesn’t matter. Infinity pool plus the view is enough!

Santorini is stunning. Crete, Agios Nikolas is a firm favourite too.

Corfu is lovely too. Been to loads of Greek islands; the only one I didn't like was Rhodes.

Go for a few days to Thessaloniki (gorgeous Mediterranean old city with great food) then go to Chalkidiki. I’m sure there won’t be many tourists as the Greeks usually go on holiday during august and this area isn’t well known with other nationalities. It has wonderful beaches, google Possidi beach if you want a nice example. The water there was better and brighter then the Carribean Sea.
