Jet 2 hand luggage policy for infants

We are due to fly Jet2 next month with a toddler (under 2 so classified as an infant). On the website it says that:
"Collapsible pushchairs/buggies or children's car seats up to a total maximum weight of 10kg (for both items) do not form part of the baggage allowance and may be carried free of charge as checked luggage for any infant or child on the booking. These items will be carried on a limited release basis, subject to space availability on the aircraft - if there is insufficient space, the items will be forwarded on the next available flight. We strongly recommend you have appropriate insurance for these items. Anything over the allocated 10kg will be charged for at the prevailing excess baggage charge."

Our pushchair and car seat weigh 13 kgs in total. In your experience do Jet2 check the weight for these?We would be flying from Leeds Bradford airport. If that is the case, it would be cheaper for us to buy extra luggage for the car seat, or buy some cheap, lighter pushchair off Argos.
I am asking because I have never had my hand luggage checked for weight but once and I used to fly low cost airlines regularly before. Having said that, I appreciate it would be easy for Jet2 to weigh the pushchair and car seat since we would have to check in at the airport and they would have the scales ready.

Doesn't this mean that it's checked baggage, not hand baggage? Airlines always check the weight of checked baggage, though I've never seen them weigh hand baggage.

I may be wrong though (I've never flown with Jet2).

The thing is we would normally keep the pushchair till just before getting onboard the plane at which point the pushchair is placed in the hold, so when we check in our suitcase and car seat, jet2 would actually have to ask us to remove our toddler from the pushchair, collapse it down, weigh it then hand it back to us for us to reopen it and put our toddler back in. It's obviously totally easily done but I was wondering if they would really bother (and potentially expect us to wake our daughter up just for that- early flight) or if they would have a quick glance at it and say it's fine.

I'm not sure its a good idea to take a car seat in the hold - its going to get dropped and chucked about. Don't take a nice pushchair either, get a cheap umbrella stroller.

You can get the car seat wrapped in that cling film thingy to protect it I think?

We've just flown with jet2 (very good experience btw) and they weighed or car seats. We have 2 and zipped them into a protective bag. We didn't have a pushchair but there are signs everywhere saying you can take your pushchair right to the plane so I'd be really surprised if they made you take the baby out and weighed it.

Back in the day when DCs were little we flew with Jet2 a lot, and they never weighed our buggy. But that said I really would recommend getting a cheap one from Argos for holidays- they really chuck the buggies about and sometimes lose them altogether; far less stressful if it's a £20 job rather than a bugaboo or similar!

I would get a cheap stroller and maybe look at hiring a car-seat once you're over there? Having said that, anytime we've flown with a pushchair we've been able to take it right up to the gate and they take it off you as you board the plane so they don't weigh it. We've not flown Jet2 but that my experience with Thomas Cook and BA.

Car seat - they will send you to the outsize baggage desk at one side. Don't think they weigh it, but they may. We wrap in bubble wrap inside car seat bag (Amazon)
Buggy- DS was in it and they didn't make him get out and weigh it, we were able to take it to the plane steps.
Also flown jet 2 LBA many times, they are clamping down a bit on weight though.

Thanks everyone. We are reluctant to hire a car seat over there as it would be mega expensive since we will be staying there for a long time. A cheap Argos pushchair may be the option.Alternatively we could pay for an extra piece of luggage online (£26) for the car seat. Or simply take the risk they won't check. I guess we'll have to weigh our options (sorry for the bad pun...)

Me and DH travelled twice with jet2 when DS was 7 months and 19 months.
1st time: We took pushchair AND infant car seat and his clothes were in our hand luggage which is 10kg. Realistically you don't need to carry 20kg of luggage onto the cabin of the plane and a toddler doesn't have that weight in clothes!

2nd time: We took the pushchair plus again, clothes in hand luggage.

We've just been to Turkey with DS now aged 5 and DD aged 2. They were allowed their ownn 22kg of luggage but TBH for a week, their stuff went in our cases easily.
Next year, we're taking one extra piece of luggage so DS and DD will share a case plus have their hand luggage for entertainment crap that lasts them 30 seconds!

cheeseoverchocolate - don't buy needlessly. People travel with their Bugaboos and Icandy prams on jet2 and TBH I have seen them treat pushchairs etc carefully.

We took a massive Mothercare Urban Detour when DS was a baby and then a Britax Agile when he was a toddler.

Recently DD had her silvercross Pop buggy in Turkey.

The infant car seat went to oversized luggage to the left of jet 2 check in in Leeds and the pushchair did too (recently) although you can take it to the plane doors too.

I travelled Jet2 numerous times when DD was a baby. It's a lottery whether both items will be weighed at check in. Sometimes our car seat and pushchair were weighed, sometimes just the car seat. Check in staff this side seemed less bothered than the ones in the Spanish airport where we found them less flexible.

To avoid problems, I bought a large car seat bag for our ERF seat and booked an extra piece of hold luggage. The bag easily fitted the car seat and I also packed clothes, jackets etc in that bag to provide a bit of padding for the car seat and maximise the luggage allowance.

Hi ladies I’m reading this with interest. We travel with my daughter who will be nearly 4 months old at the end of September.
I’m only taking the buggy - uppababy vista. Can I take this to the gate and put it in a bag to protect it there? Buying a cheap one won’t support her back as she’s only 3 months currently. So ideally need to take this but don’t want it getting ruined. Any advice on if I can put it in a bag at the gate? Thanks
