For drama, the 1979 French series Richelieu. More true to history than many. Glenda Jackson’s Elizabeth R - took fewer liberties with history (or fashion!) than the more recent things like Cate Blanchett’s films, and GR is the Elizabeth imo. I, Claudius - buggerall to do with actual history (it came from Robert Graves’ novels) but those performances! John Hurt was one hell of a scary piece of work as Caligula.
