Went supermarket shopping with DS today for a uni shop- trolley full of beans, pasta and noodles etc.
What kind of food are yours taking for their first night? Pizzas? Ready meal? Something home made?

Our drop of slot isn't until tea time, so we'll take her out for something to eat if she wants to (she might prefer to stay with her new flatmates - we don't know yet if others are in yet or not).
I'll start her off with some cupboard staples and a block of cheese and some eggs and she can go and do a shop the next day if she wants anything particular. It will give her chance to get her bearings a bit, or the option of making herself something with ingredients she has in or of eating with her new flatmates or whatever she chooses, without having to 'eat anything up'.

My dd is taking with her a homemade lasagna which she made today & an apple & cinnamon loaf I made her. We’ll also take her food shopping & buy her a weeks worth of supplies so she’ll be able to cook or just heat up. She’s also going to see what her flatmates are up to.

Dd went back today and took fresh food to make salads and tuna pasta. Fresh fruit. And they have a freezer sense took frozen veg and frozen chicken fillets for making things like a korma. She also took a few ready meals and some frozen breaded chicken burgers she likes.

She learnt from last year where she got the worst fridge shelf and no freezer space in the kitchen of 12 students and has moved in on the first morning it was possible to so as to bag the space she wanted this year.

When DD went last year we got her a full shop and started her off with a decent store cupboard, spices, stock cubes, lentils, pasta, rice etc.
We took her for food on the first night which was nice but then the flat all went out to eat so she was stuffed!
She cooked lots of decent food- not a single tin of beans! They set up a rota in the flat and all cooked for each other. They did three course dinners for birthdays and at Christmas.
