Are many universities delaying results day? My DD was telling me today that her university have said that the results will be delayed until after the original graduation date "because they don't have a deadline". Her results are needed as she needs a particular classification for her university place in September.

They have been unable to give her a date when she will have her results.

I think the Office for Students would have something to say about it if they did. Seems highly unlikely.

She's guessing at a date when she'll get them, i will tell her to email them for clarification and take it from there.

It will almost certainly say on the university's web site what date (and even what time) final results will be communicated to students. Every university web site I've just looked at states this clearly.

Results may be delayed by a couple of weeks but not beyond July. They absolutely do have to work to a deadline.

I went onto Liverpool's website today and they're sending out final degree results on 15 July. I'd imagine most universities will be around then.

Orangecinnamon, that thought did occur to me so I checked the university website, it specifies that the examinations board will meet in July to assess if undergrads have met the appropriate criteria for their degree to be awarded.

Was graduation in July then ? The results will likely be available shortly after the Board meets.

I'm waiting one one piece of work to he graded and am literally on the 2:1/first class border but apparently when students enquired with the module team last week, we were told the usual 15 day turnaround doesn't apply due to covid (I've done joint hons and the other subject got back to us within that time and indeed actually said "here are your results well within the 15 working day turnaround").

We will however, definitely know by 20th July when the examining board have ratified and released the awards.

I'd very much like the last grades to be released so I have a pretty good idea of where I stand. Not that I can think of one single reason covid would have any impact on marking assignments.

Really? Not one? How about staff member ill? Staff member juggling home schooling and marking? Staff member involved in assessing a shit load of extra extenuating circs applications? Staff member having technical issues working from home - maybe no decent internet? Staff member busy frantically re-writing exams and adapting other teaching given new delivery method?

I am hoping my twins' Bristol results will be out in July. Some deadlines were extended by 2 weeks so I suspect markers will need a couple of extra weeks to mark as a result. My sons' law school places starting early Sept are conditional on a 2/1 so I hope the results are out by then but I am sure they will be.

Ha, well the students all had to work to a deadline but apparently this doesn't apply to staff. I managed my deadlines while juggling kids and homeschooling. We were given at best a one week extension and if we couldn't meet that for any if the reasons you have stated we were deferred until August.

We are one of the only cohorts not to know all of our grades yet so a lot of schools managed to mark within usual deadlines. We don't even have a date when we can expect them.

And technical issues? Our off campus was so rammed with 20 odd thousand students trying to access it when it was never designed to accommodate that amount of traffic, resulted in days and days of being able to even get onto it to actually do anything, you know, like access lecture slides.

Although closing off campus to first years whose grades make ZERO difference anyway and which would have eased the system a lot apparently didn't occur to anybody.

Ok i've checked and exam boards where I work are later but results day the same.

A lot of work has had to be done to get systems to reconfigure how awards are calculated etc. I should imagine any delays in results are going to be as short as poss with the threat of OFS complaints and clearing looming ahead

DD just wishes her uni would tell them when results day is. She, and I, don't understand why they can't just tell them instead of saying it's delayed and that they don't know when it will be.

In some institutions there is a two tier system so students know their results (and not withstanding any special circs) before the Board of Examiners meet after which they get their 'official result' do you think that is what may be happening here?

sorry missed a bit out...by knowing their results can usually calculate classification.

She knows her results up until January but hasn't got the final exam equivalent results or the dissertation results so can't work it out yet. Thanks for the help.

I absolutely feel for her, I've got a constant tension headache. It's the not knowing. If I knew the final assignment grades would be released next Monday (for instance) I might be able to stop jumping out of my skin at every ping of my phone.

It is a small module group of about 16 of us. Four weeks and counting since submission and four tutors. Can they really not give THEMSELVES a deadline so we have some idea?

The grades awarded by the boards are very rarely different, IME the board of examiners tend to be a bit more generous and have given me a slightly higher % than the original marker did.

Let's not forget that this year's graduates finished a degree in very difficult circumstances. It's not just staff who may experience difficulties.

That's the main reason why exam boards have been delayed. To accommodate students who may need extensions and not push them into a resit situation. I'm pretty sure most academic staff would have preferred for the exams boards to take place at the usual time, rather than have to cancel (and lose, in the case of many of my colleagues) annual leave because the term has effectively been extended for three weeks.

Yes, one of my twins at Bristol I think on the whole did not have extensions of time for things and dissertation due at Easter. His twin (different subject but same university) could get 2 week extensions and he took advantage of them as he always does things at the last minute and then seems to do very well indeed but even so I think it is risky to push things to the last minute but that is just how he is - so probably he and others have taken the extensions they were offered so everything is a couple of weeks later getting into the markers' hands.
