Montessori teacher training - anyone done it at MMI and feedback?

About 18 years ago, I did a BA in education, but didn’t ever teach. I was too young, and wanted to do a job outside of school etc etc.

For the last 5-10 years, I’ve been considering going back into education. I got offered a PGCE place at Cambridge in early years 7 years ago, but had my first DC sooner than expected so put it all on hold. Now Cambridge is not a viable option (too far) and I don’t think a full time PGCE is a viable option for me now, either.

Now my children are a bit older, I’d like to take a part time route to teaching. My youngest goes to a Montessori nursery and it’s fabulous, so I am now considering applying at the Maria Montessori Institute for an AMI Montessori Diploma 3-6.

Has anyone else done this?

I don’t know if this is the best option for me, as then I’ll only be a qualified Montessori teacher. Which might not matter as I love the ethos and those are the places I’d want to teach. Or should I do teach first?

I’ve missed the deadlines for this year, which is fine as I’m still not clear what to apply for. (And who knows what will happen with the training with everything that’s going on in the world!).

But would love to hear any experiences from Montessori teachers? Especially those who trained at the MMI.

Or would love to hear from any teachers who trained later in life!

Sorry, not the response you're hoping for. I looked into it but ending up doing a PGCE because I needed the financial support. I would be really interested to hear from someone who has completed the diploma, it's definitely still on my radar for the future.

I’m a bit worried about finances, too, to be honest. Teach First is tempting, as you get paid to train. So tricky!

Have you asked the staff at your son's nursery? That might be a good place to start!

I did do a full-time PGCE. It was horrid but worth it for the job I have now.

I sent the owner an email just yesterday, I’m not actually sure where she trained! She’s lovely so hoping she might have some good advice for me.

There is a big part of me that wishes I’d just done that PGCE back when I got offered the place - in the end, i could have made the timing work! (Ish!)

Hi I'm also interested in this if anyone has any experience of the AMI course. I'm thinking to do the 3-6 diploma in September this year. It seems like a lot of money but the thing pulling me towards this one is the fact it's internationally recognised so could be a good chance to move abroad and work. Wondered if you found anything more out OP? Thanks ☺️
