Student Mental Health Nurse - what essentials do I need?

Hello,

I'm starting a mental health nursing degree in September and I wondered if anybody knew what kinds of essentials would be needed?

I'd like to get myself organised, so if there are any books that would be essential please let me know! Also, attire or things I may need to wear (unsure if uniform is provided as I've heard MH nurses don't wear uniform) perhaps shoes? Not sure what kinds of shoes I will need.

If anyone has any tips for me that would also be fab!

Thanks!

When i did my training 7 years ago we were provided with a uniform that we only wore on certain wards ie elderly. The rest of the time it was smart comfortable clothes. Make sure to get a decent pair of comfy shoes apart from that a laptop pads pens and a bag big enough to fit it all in. No need to buy any books hun you can get everything yoi need from the libary or internet.
Good luck with it all

I’m not a MH nurse, I’m an OT student but work alongside them. For shoes you need something comfy, plain black and covers the whole foot. Sketchers or Clark’s are the most popular around here, I have some from Clark’s and they’re hideous but they’re soooo comfy even when you’re in them for 12 hours.

As pp said I would hold off buying any books until you see what you actually use and what’s available at the library. You’ll probably be fine just borrowing

Are they the unloop ones on clarks @riotlady ? if they are, I wholeheartedly agree, they are hideous lol.

@Mo81 thanks, I've got most of those things already thankfully. Which shoes would you recommend?
