Has anyone got experience of Bolton University or Hertfordshire University please?

DS has unconditional offers from both to do Motorsport Technology. We have visited both and both have good facilities for his course. Bolton is a lot closer to home (1.5 hours away), Hertfordshire (3.5 hours away). Would be interested to know if anyone has experience of either.

My daughter went to Herts and really enjoyed it. She graduated last year and has made some long lasting friends. Lived on campus the first year and then moved in to a nearby house for the following 2 years.

Has your son compared the courses on discover uni for student satisfaction?. Hertfordshire is strong on employment outcomes but that may reflect that it is in the south east. Accommodation will cost more in Hertfordshire than Bolton.

I checked out the courses. The satisfaction are broadly similar. I think it's fair to say Hertfordshire is the more prestigious institution of the two.

Be very careful about these courses full stop! Who actually gets jobs in the motorsport field after completing them? A friends DS was very disappointed by the outcomes of the Hertfordshire course. It looks good but don’t dream of Mercedes or Red Bull. Manage expectations.

Also make sure the courses are accredited by ICE. The grads should be on a par with Mechanical or Electrical engineers and top flight motor sport outfits really do have a great choice of talented grads. From top flight universities.

My friend's son studied this course at Hertfordshire. He was less than impressed and thought he ended up teaching himself! He scraped a 2:1 and took around 2 years to get a job actually within the F1 world albeit with a small company. He wishes he would've taken the Red Bull apprenticeship he was offered rather than the degree on hindsight.

Sorry, I misled you. It’s the Engineering Council and the Herts course is approved for Incorporated Engineer status but not Chartered Engineer status. As it doesn’t require Maths or Physics A level it sits below BEng and MEng courses. I also think their description of what you can aspire to after this course is verging on very misleading. Another friends DS did a similar course at UWE and never got close to a job in motorsport. There are so many young grads wanting these jobs and international travel with a worldwide team isn’t likely to happen for many.
