Which unis are campus & RG please?

I’ve tried googling ‘RG campus universities’ but I get links to one of the other and not both. I know there’s Warwick, Birmingham and Nottingham but where else please? Is Reading?

Reading isn't RG.

Manchester has a campus I think, so does Liverpool.

It's probably easier to get a list of the 24 unis and cross reference each one.

IIRC Exeter is a campus uni. I went to Birmingham in the end but Exeter was my second choice and I’m pretty sure it had a lovely campus.

Happy97 yes, getting a list of RG is easy but trying to find out if they’re a campus or not isn’t necessarily mentioned on their website. MNers will definitely know!

Exeter has a beautiful campus and is RG.

Lancaster has a campus and is top 10, but isn't a RG. There are a lot of great non RG unis now I wouldn't bank on it as a guarantee of standards

Leeds, in that ?all the buildings where teaching takes place, plus some of the accommodation, are all together. But still art of the city, rather than, you have to travel out to a separate place to get to it.

Southampton, at least teaching buildings all together (there is more than one site, but I think all the teaching for a given subject is on the one site, e.g. Biosciences at Highfield), but accommodation is not within the same 'boundary', but close by.

What is the subject area to be studied? And you / your DC do realise that 'RG' isn't necessarily the best for a particular course?

And Kent (mentioned upthread) is definitely campus, with stunning views over Canterbury. But not a member of the club.

Sheffield isn't a campus as such, but many of its buildings are very close together. I reckon it's probably more compact than, say, York which is now across two campuses 15mins walk apart.

Dd was adamant he didn't want a campus university untl Dh persuaded him to look at Nottngham. He is now in his final year there and loving it.

Bath is a campus university but I think that's what put ds off the idea of a campus- very small and quite a way from.the city.

Liverpool is not campus; the buildings aren't even that close together.
Lancaster is an excellent campus uni.
York, too.
Russell Group is a red herring nowadays. The unis pay to be in it and always have done, but a lot of them are being outdone in every league table because they're resting on the "oh DC went to a RG university" thing.

Southampton - RG and campus, plus the perfect mix in that the campus is not too far from the city (?20 minutes by bus, and actually not that much longer to walk it), and the main student housing is clustered around Portswood which has a couple of supermarkets and part way between uni and town. I’m a Soton grad in case you didn’t guess, but I enjoyed my time there - the campus gives a good feeling of belonging to the uni, has good facilities, and is not way out of town like Bath/Warwick

Russell Group is a red herring nowadays.

Last time I looked three of the top ten universities were not RG. Schools are blinded by the idea that RG is "better" and push the idea on to students and parents.

And quite frankly, most students don't care whether a university is research intensive or not. DD is at a research intensive university, but as she is studying biomedical sciences being research intensive is important. I would have though it less important for arts/humanities degrees.

I teach at a RG university and my advice to parents and prospective students is to prioritise the course first, then look at the university. Always visit and talk to students before making your choice.

Queen mary in London is campus based (though medical school is separate)

Ignore the rg label and concentrate on 1. the course content and 2. A setting you will be happy with. Loughborough is campus based btw. Rg was a lobby group formed and for political reasons several major universities refused to join, whilst they tend to be better theres so much variation, it's very course dependent

Queen Mary is worth a look if at all interested in studying in London. As PP mentions - main blocks are close together - but onsite accommodation isn't guaranteed.

Keele University is a campus based University, not RG but is in many of the top ten lists and usually Number 1 for Student Satisfaction.
