What journal should DS be mentioning on his PS for Mech Eng? I will be getting it for him and he will be reading some articles.

I don’t know what the best one is, we subscribed to New Scientist when DS’ were in sixth form. They went on to become an aeronautical engineer and a mechanical engineer.

Does the Institute of Mechanical Engineers publish one? I know Civils does

The IET has an online magazine, I think. Might be worth your DS taking a look at to see if it has anything of interest at the right sort of level for him?

But obviously he shouldn't mention a journal at all unless he's genuinely reading it and interested! I can't remember if DD mentioned anything she'd read (rather than done) on her general/electrical engineering PS.

IET is very accessible reading & covers a huge range of topics. Journal articles will probably be so specialised they can be hard to read for untrained.

I assume the OP meant 'magazine' more than 'journal' in the academic sense.

I've just remembered there's a list of books which if you've not already found it your DS might be interested in (more with Xmas in mind than anything else) - I think DD read a couple of these. To be clear, this isn't in any way 'required reading', just some ideas of books budding engineers might enjoy.

My son read my dad's copies of professional Engineering, the journal you get if you are an I MechE member. He put a sentence about it in his PS but unless there's a handy member in the family / friend circle it's probably hard to get hold of and I wouldn't seek it out specially. If your son does study Mech E then student membership is free but you can't join unless doing an engineering course.
