Dd is off to York. She opted for several options and got given an en suite non catered 38 week let at just under £6k

Luckily her maintenance loan will cover that and some spare. Hurrah for living in Wales as we would be paying a lot of it otherwise.

We were surprised how much she got for the maintenance loan, but I don't think it covers that totally, but nearly enough not to worry too much.

No course fee (NHS Wales cover that as long as he works in Wales for 2 years post grad) but will only get £2k maintenance grant and £1k bursary.
So we will have to pay the accom costs . Am seriously thinking that we might buy a house there next year! Dont suppose you know a nice little terrace for sale or want a lodger Madeleine??

That’s a lot more than I paid for dd in catered at Leeds.

Ds is tall & most of the halls just had single beds, which long term would have been uncomfortable for him. Unfortunately the only halls with bigger beds were the fancy ones with en-suites and luckily for me that’s what he got allocated

Southampton self catered - she's hoping for either 4,558.20 or 5,404.52.

The most expensive self catering room is 7,128.40.

The basic loan (4200) doesn't cover the rent on the cheapest rooms.

This making Lincoln's £5600 en suite look cheap. Off campus, annoyingly but next to Morrison's! I'd have happily paid for catering but it's not an option any more at lots of unis

I just told him he needs to do more lifeguard shifts and save up for 2 years for his living costs.

My son's just graduated. He was at Nottingham and I reckon it cost us around £15k for the 3 years. Halls first year, then shared houses.

Hall prices seem to have escalated massively in the last few years. It’s pretty disgraceful to be honest. People bitch about student landlords but the unis themselves are ripping students off more.

Just under £5300 at UEA for a single bed en-suite in their Village Plus accommodation (just outside the entrance to campus but only 15 mins walk from the main facilities on campus). It will be small but not bad value comparatively. There are cheaper - and pricier - options.

Dd is off to Northumbria. 5.5k self catering. Maintenance loan 6k. Luckily we've been able to save Child Benefit since she was born to help with higher ed costs!

Additional question!

Are the payments equal each term?
I suppose we assumed they would be, and it would have helped DD budget a bit more easily. But they are wildly different. Nearly £2400 in Oct, only £1500 in Jan and £1900 in April.

Haven't heard from UCL yet but won't be cheap.
She has applied student loan and some maintenance loan but we will top her with anything extra.

It's painful isn't it. Dd1 went to Dundee and it's quite cheap, her loan covered the accommodation with some to spare and even more so once she moved in to a flat. Dd2 is off to York this year but thankfully we live there and she's staying at home. As dd1 is only half way through her medical course this is good news.
