Missed B by one mark

DC missed a B by one mark. School not being helpful about advice on remarking other than saying it’s up to you. Is it best to get all the papers remarked or just the lowest. And if you have one remarked can you get the others remarked later?

DC not applied to uni but if DC had then likely offer was ABB for what they wanted and where they might want to go.
Can afford remark fees fortunately but presumably the more you get remarked the greater the risk of a fall in grade?

You can ask to see the papers first before deciding which to have remarked.

I was 0.6% off of a C grade for one of my A Levels according to my teacher. The month of exams I'd had an emergency c section and was seriously unwell but still managed to sit all of my exams.

I asked the head of that subject to send it off for a remark with extenuating circumstances and she said to me "it was your own fault for getting pregnant and ruining your life so no, I'm not going to". She thought because I wasn't going to uni to do that subject I wasn't worth it :(

I never did go to uni, but I did go on to do other further education. Still bothers me to this day how close it was.

Get one one in promptly and do one at a time. What subject? If you know the structure of the paper choose one where there is more flexibility eg essay questions are more subjective and therefore more likely to change than maths ones. Choose the lowest paper, or the one with the lowest scores on long answer questions. School have access to the mark by mark breakdown (that’s only useful if you know what type of questions they were) as well as the raw score on each script. Normally start with the lowest paper first, and then submit the others in turn if needed.

Have you done anything about this yet? DS was 3 under A* for Physics (OCR) and I have ordered papers and we will get a teacher friend to look at them to decide whether any have scope for more marks. If you are not in a hurry it is a good idea to get the papers back before requesting re-marks.

Which Board was yours? If you got a review, was it successful?

The college should have funding for remarks, your DD should definitely get his remarked, please speak to his tutor who will arrange it.

Sunflowers, virtually no state school or college will fund a remark for B to A, they might for C to B as that increases your headline percentage rate if successful.

Remark done for one paper and unsuccessful.
Not only does the school not fund the remark it also charges a non-refundable admin fee. If you ask to see the papers first and then get all three remarked that’s a non-refundable fee of £60 for the school.

Sorry to hear that. People are saying that "reviews of marking" as they are called now are having very poor success rates this year. The system is rubbish - it is not in the interests of the Boards to have successful reviews as they lose reputation and have to refund the fees.

Which Board and subject was it?

It is really unreasonable of the college to charge a fee when you are 1 mark out, might be more reasonable if people are doing it speculatively. I would take it up with the Head if I had that. It is in their interests for marks to go up.

DD review of Eng Lit -1 mark off an A was successful. Went up 8 marks. New grade-A. Was Edecxl
School paid as so close and only reviewed her lowest marked paper.

Dd had Edexcel Eng Lit ‘review’ as 1 mark under A and was unsuccessful. They came back quick though.

That’s a shame scabetty , the reason we did it was because she got nearly full marks on all the other questions and a U on one. Her teacher thought it was suspicious as did she. It’s that paper we had checked. We still think it’s under marked but as only a review can’t change that and still A* overall.
