Swapping firm for insurance?

DD is thinking she might prefer her insurance to her firm. They are only a grade apart (AAB v ABB). She is fairly confident she will get ABB - and it is likely that her firm will accept her with those grades. The insurance uni has places on her course in clearing, as does the firm.

Am I right in thinking that at this stage she should, assuming things go to plan on Thursday, contact the insurance on the day to see if they will offer her a place, then reject her firm? Anything else she should / shouldn't do?

I would also look at the accommodation rules - sometimes a university's "guaranteed accommodation scheme" for freshers will stipulate that you make them your firm choice. So by switching to insurance choice you may not get guaranteed accommodation (as they may have already allocated to firm offer acceptees). Not sure if that makes sense (!!) Or if it is a consideration but it caught us out!! Good Luck though!

That's a good point! Thanks.

It can make a huge difference to the uni experience if you have trouble getting accommodation with your insurance uni. You can end up miles away in private halls, looking for a house share or private lodgings, depending on which University it is. Most only guarantee accommodation to those who firm it in the first place.
