OPEN UNIVERSITY DEGREE

Thinking about doing a social work degree or something else with the OU. I work part time and need to keep working to pay the bills so can't study full time.

If you have completed a degree course with the OU what course did you do and what job to you have as a result of gaining the qualification? Did you find you were given enough support?
Thanks

I haven’t finished mine yet so can’t comment on the job aspect, but I also do it part time and definitely feel I get plenty of support

@Jaffacakebeast thank you. I haven't studied since high school and a bit nervous I'll find it difficult. I know I just need to get through the first year and get used to making time to study and then it will be ok.

I'm looking to start a social work degree next September and studied a part time open uni access course over 2 years to allow me to get on the degree course.

Unless you're workplace is a "sponsor" of your social work degree I don't think you can do it through open uni. You have to already have a related job position in place which allows you to do the practical assessment side of the degree.

So I'm going to a brick uni for the social work degree and unless your part time job would be weekend work then I don't think you'll be able to do it. Most Uni's have placements in all 3 years where you basically work full time mon-Friday for 3-6 months at a time. Some uni's don't start placements until 2nd year

Thanks @ems137 I've just contacted the open uni and asked them to refer me to the social work department with my queries. Whether working in a care home would count towards the practical side of the course and if I have enough qualifications to enter the course.
