Anyone had a student loan for college?

Hi everyone, I'm going back to college in September to do level 2 beauty therapy and the equipment if quite expensive. I haven't got a job but my partner works full time and we're going to claim universal credit. The equipment is about £300-£400 altogether. Just wondering if anyone has had a student loan for college? If so, how much did you get? X

I don't think you would get one for a level 2. Advanced Learning Loans were for level 3 and beyond. Maybe ask the college if they have any funding schemes available.

Level 2 courses aren’t eligible for student loans from Student Finance England which are for tertiary education (Level 4-6) generally with a separate loan available for post grad and doctoral study.
For a level 2 course, unless it is English and Maths, there is no national funding available. Your college may offer bursaries or scholarships you could access - the finance team at the college will be best place to advise.

I'm in Scotland so I don't know what level 2 equates to but student loans are only available for higher education, not further.

You can only get a learners loan for L3 and above.
You should check with your college, some L2 courses are free to all if studied full time.
I did a L2 qualification several years ago and at that point it was only free to under 19, but it changed a few years ago to be free to all if studied full time (which is usually 2/3 days a week).
I also did L3 and did get a loan to pay for my fees even though I was still a part time student.
