DS sat a Maths mock yesterday in class which he wasn't expecting, and it went pretty well (he thinks) so maybe the revision is paying off.
Exams start the 7th May and finish on the 17th May so not long now! Starting to feel the pressure here!

Piggy thank you - I will email the exams officer, I hadn’t thought to do that.

Waves Hello

DC1 was still waiting to hear from Manchester after interview in Feb. Then they were invited to join the offer holders' FB group. Waited ....
Then they very politely chased...
A "technical error" apparently! Promised a UCAS update within 24 hours.

blametheparents · 19/03/2019 13:50

@ShanghaiDiva - yes, he is. Are you another IB parent?
The exams are so early! A long summer, but at the moment I think DS would trade a couple of weeks or so for extra revision time!

Laniakea that sounds awful your poor DC, Chemistry is hard enough without all this teacher hassle !

Also waves to Shanghai
Roll on May! DC1 turns 18 mid-exams, but at least it's a Saturday.

Lani The situation with your dc's school is just awful. I don't know how both of you are holding up but i'd have lost my rag completely by now. How are the lessons with the tutor going? honestly if you can afford it, I would pull DD out of the school Chemistry lessons all together and get her through the rest of it privately, so how ever many she's supposed to have weekly at school, book them privately. Possibly somewhere near her school so she can walk there and back easily.

I can't believe they have completely messed up a key subject for an entire cohort and nobody seems to be accountable to either the students or the universities they have applied to.

Tutoring is so expensive, could you group together with other families in the same situation to share the cost?

wigglybeezer - thanks for the tip off. DD boards away and has handled her UCAS and student finance applications, and acceptance on her own. I hate to think she got this far and then had a problem with accommodation. Is your DS happy here?

Laniakea - that's awful and just at the time when she needs the teahers the most.

blametheparents - I don't envy those doing IB then, there's going to be a lost of exams in a few days. Still waiting for DD to give me a copy of her exam timetable, but she's doing A levels - heras start 6th May and end around 21st June.

BringOnTheScience - is Manchester his first choice? We were waiting on Durham until a couple of weeks ago - offers from unis for her firm and insurance came in 10 and 16 weeks before, so by the time the Durham offer came in, she'd got her mind set on those. Hopoe the mock exam result is good.

BringOnTheScience · 19/03/2019 15:45

ifonly4 Yep, Manchester is their first choice. On tenterhooks to see what they offer. 33 points from Sheffield (2nd), or 34 from York with UiF, so a lot hangs on what Manchester say.

The IB exam timetable is fine compared to the madness of GCSEs 🤣 DC1 has only 1 day with 2 different subjects and only 1 subject in the final week.

At least they are done early, and they can start summer jobs before the A level hoards start.

wigglybeezer · 19/03/2019 15:46

@ifonly4, DS is having a good time and working hard, feels at home, no wobbles what so ever really but he has been on a learning curve with all the adult admin but he was only 17 (and a young, unstreetwise 17) when he started. He's been happy with his acommodation and in fact is staying in halls next year too.

If only - (waves) wow your DD has fab offers, so pleased it’s all working out for her,

Laniakea - really good advice for your DD and her friends. I hope you get a successful response from the school

DD still waiting on response from final audition, but mocks have gone well so fingers firmly crossed for the real thing

I am just looking through the UCAS e-mail son received, it goes on about loans but says absolutely zilch if the parents are paying. So how do I find out about that.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/03/2019 18:00

justasking111 you/he need to complete online forms via Student Finance. We applied a few weeks ago.
