Does a single award A level and a double award in the same subject count as 2 or 3?

Sorry for confusion. Trying to support my niece and I’m not up to speed with all this. She has a B in applied art (single award) from last year and a BB in applied art (double award) this year. How many Bs does she have? Does the double award supersede the single?

I think she has 3 Bs. I got a B and BC and I got into uni so yes must be 3 Smilewell done

Thank you Sparkles, we’re your single and double in the same subject?

I would have thought they cancelled each other out because of too similar content.

There is a list of prohibited combinations published somewhere, maybe by QCA but I can’t find it.

One was a double award, applied business.

Sorry misread, yes they were two separate subjects so BC for one subject and B for another

Was her first year not classed as an AS? Mine was and then the second year made it an A-level. It takes two years to get an A-level so if she's done the same subject for 2 years and it's a double it will be classed as 2 a levels.

Sorry it's quite confusing! I didn't realise it was the same subject.

Thanks folks. It seems to me that your assumption is more likely the correct one AH but cannot find anything online that advises either way.

If you know the exam board I’ve remembered that it’s called “discounting”

Pearson & OCR websites appear to be saying this spec ended in 2017 with only results in 2018.

It only counts as 2 A levels. Did she think she would be getting three? Is an art degree the plan - in which case art foundation for a year.

She seems to have been told by school that it would count as 3. I suspected that was unlikely. 2 Bs should still give her some options though (I hope)

I did a double award in Health and Social Care a few years ago and it counted as two A-Levels
