Where to start looking for Graphic Design/Creative Digital Media degree courses?

How do I we Grin begin to sift the wheat from the chaff?

The Good University Guide?

I have mentioned this before but the issue is that the advice DS might get from sixth form is coming from people who a) don't work in industry, b) took their degree years, if not decades ago, and c) have no skin in the game.

What should DS look for, apart from typical offers, of course!?

DS's predicteds are quite good, A in Graphic Design A2 level, and at least Distinction/Distinction in his Creative Digital Media BTEC, if not D*s. Depending on how today went, there'll also be a Geography AS at A or B in there, too.

We are not sure where to start the search for good courses as every ex-Poly the length of the land offers a Graphics degree, but some won't be worth the paper they're printed on, sadly.

Any ideas?

TIA

Dd is hoping for a different degree but look at the whatuni website. She also googled league tables for her degree subject and found some ranking list but can’t remember where.

Then she knocked off a load of places which geographically she didn’t want to be at.

Then started looking at entry requirements and knocked off the really high and really low stuff.

Then she went back to league tables and looked at student satisfaction scores. Made a list of possibilities, looked at their course set up in more detail via prospectus.....now we’re doing open days.

Open day season is here so get moving.

I have no idea how well-regarded the course is, but the university is at least a Plate Glass former Polytechnic (institute), rather than post-1992, if it is likely to make any difference?

Surrey has a very poor reputation for creative subjects. I'd be looking at decent art colleges - University of the Arts or Goldsmiths if you can bear London, Leeds, Falmouth or Farnham if not.

Bournemouth has carved out a good reputation for this sort of course. With good links with local employers.

The Student Room is often a great place for info on courses. They have an Arts and Design Courses Forum www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=113
