Where to apply in circumstances for geography degree

DD has been very focused on studying music, but is currently reviewing her options and thinking about a Geography Degree (more interested in human). She's dropped her EPQ in favour of putting in extra hours for her music.

She's currently doing geography, music and RE at A level. Her target grades are AAA - she's currently on her target for geography but I'm a bit concerned she doesn't have a science. Any suggestions where to apply.

Does she know what she wants to do after university in terms of career? Some jobs like the better universities so it tends to keep option open by applying for the harder ones to get in to which will look good on the CV later. One of mine did geog BSc without a science A level. They also did tons of music too and got AAA (their grades needed for the university)

Don't panic. Have a look at the UCAS course search. I've done a quick look at Geog BA courses and they (including respectable places) don't ask for sciences - some don't even specify Geography!

Sheffield has a BA and asks for AAB and they want Geography A level or a social science - no “traditional” science. Therefore I would think similar universities won’t ask for a science if she chooses the right course.

How about Cardif, off the top of my head? Music &b Geog depts are near one another from my recollection and i think lots of musical societies etc and lots of music going on in the city. Also good geog dept and can even do Geog & Planning combined degree (very rare option)

Bangor has a BAGeog

Glasgow has MA Geography (as well as BSc and MASocSci). They even do a joint Geography/Music degree.

The BSc at Glasgow requires a science A level. Stick to BA and Science is less likely to be required. BSc tells you something - it’s scientific!

A friend's daughter went for a geography taster afternoon at Kings College London recently. If you are near London I think they run these regularly (they are listed on the UCAS site: www.ucas.com/events/exploring-university/learn-about-uni-taster-course ).

She found the afternoon useful but has decided against applying to Kings as it felt too weighted towards human and she prefers physical

• so maybe it would be worth your dd looking at Kings if she likes human.
