Continuing the previous thread.

Exams, assessments, essays, etc.

Support, or lack of it.

Will they all get accommodation for next year and can they cook a balanced meal yet.

Back again, despite exams and Disability trauma ( thank you for validating I had right to be cross as DS told me off for being cross - I pointed out the amount of money we are paying the least they can do is have support arrangements in place)

He had house sorted for next year, 6 boys ....😱

Does anyone know do student rental deposits come under same protection scheme as private rental deposits?

Dds exams are over so she's out celebrating with her fellow dental student. Said one exam bad, one good and today's ok.

Just caught up on last thread. All quiet here DS produced his first script and sent it to me ..v professional it seemed. Now he just has to make the film, I asked how he’s find people to be in it..he laughed at me and said “god mum just mention you’ve got a script to the drama students and they’re all over you “ ! I do hope he meant metaphorically 🤔

Eve yes the deposits for student rentals should be in a protection scheme.

In general, students who live in private rented accommodation have the same rights as any other private tenant. //england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/private_renting/private_rented_housing_for_students

Hello new thread!

Eve that sounds awful, I hope it gets sorted soon for your DS and you were right to be cross and rings them, I would have done too.

dd hasn't had time to look for a house as she has sooooo much work. Exams, reports, labs.

She does have a group to live with though. I'm hoping all the Warwick accommodation doesn't get snapped up. I don't know what it is like up there for 2nd year accommodation.

Thanks for the new thread.

Sorry to see DC who need and have been promised support finding that it is not in place, especially for exams which are stressful enough as it is.

Had to send off new glasses and passport to DD - thankfully it arrived very speedily as she needs her passport for the rental agreement or something!

Hello,

Txt from DS "Mum, can you remember what I got the tamarind paste for?".

We managed to narrow it down to aloo gobi!

DS can't wait to get out of the shithole that is his Unite private halls. Tiny rooms, broken radiators, rusting freezer hinges, dodgy cooker fuses, broken washing machines in the rip-off laundrette - all at £8+k for 44 weeks. What a joke.

At least he's met some lovely people.

Eve really sorry to hear about your DS’s exam. It’s enough to put someone completely off their stroke. DS gets a computer for any writing and he has been very impressed with the way it has all been organised. I hope they will make major allowances for your DS in that exam.

DS has now finished the three exams (verdict; OK, awful, not too bad) - he is a natural pessimist when it comes to estimation so I’m hoping it’s OK! He’s now onto a practical week designing and programming an electronic THING. I haven’t a clue what it involves but try hard to look fascinated and intelligent when he tells me about it on FaceTime . . . .

Lineysruff That sounds awful for your DS - and the cost!! Where is he at Uni?

Report
bigTillyMint · 19/01/2018 11:04

Liney, DD is in a Unite hall and I think they have had a few problems like that BUT they have big bedrooms and a massive kitchen /sitting room. She has not moaned at all!

DD2 is in unite accommodation and it's great. The staff and flat are all fab. The only negative is noise from the neighboring flat.

I think there is a lot of luck involved with student flats. You can be in a beautiful flat but end up with awful flat mates or be in a dive of a house but with lovely flat mates. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi everyone. Good luck to those of your offspring who have exams at the moment. DS's course don't have any exams this term unlike most of his flatmates, which meant he was able to have a really good Christmas break without stressing. After three years on the trot of GCSEs, ASs, A levels and their mocks it was fantastic for him to have a proper break and I think much needed. He slept, ate and caught up with friends for the month. (Mind you he did have 2 essays to write which he didnt and he'll no doubt miss the revision he hasn't done come the summer exams. )

We took him back last weekend and he's gone off the radar for now. As someone said on the last thread I'm actually missing him as much this time round as when he first went. DH and I excelled ourselves by having a blazing row with each other about absolutely nothing at all after we'd dropped him off, and I know it was slight gloom on both our parts at his going that kicked it off.

All OK now.

DD has done two out of her three exams ( all multiple choice so I think they're being quite kind to them at this stage) Have gone well or OK so far.

She just caught up with us with a lovely email after not much contact during busy exam week. She has several nice things planned with her Uni flatmates including all going to Edinburgh for a few days, because several of them ( including international students) haven't been to Scotland before, and well, why not! This makes me very happy as seems they have jelled really well as a group, and looking after one another too. You'd think they might have a look around Wales whilst they're there, but hey, why not go to Scotland!

Hoping they have a think about finding a place for next year too, once they've all finished January exams. Only the three of them looking together I think, partly as some are third years or doing some kind of study abroad year in UK. I think some are looking with friends from church too but it all seems to have been settled very amicably which is great ☺

DS said his exam wasn't great. He does have form for being pessimistic though, so I am hoping it's not that bad. Smile

One of DD's friends has quit Sad. She got behind on her work and now she's split up with her boyfriend. She's also a housemate, so she will be missed.

Ah, a new thread - good. The other one had got a bit unwieldy. My DD had her main exams before any of her friends, then lots of coursework due, now, who knows. Not been in touch and not responding to messages. I know she has one more exam and I had hoped that she would come back around now for a couple of days but apparently not. It is a long way but I did offer to pay her train fare.

Oh HSM that's really sad to read. DS lost one housemate before Christmas because of them not being able to cope. I feel for them as I was one of those but I relocated to go to uni near home-very complicated reasons. It was the best thing for me and I hope things work out for your DCs friend.
