Does anyone know when York starts to make offers? DS has had responses from 4 of his 5 choices so just waiting for York - on a gap year so already has results. Thanks.

Yeah, I knew it was wrong as I typed it, and I'm from oop north!
He's got 3 firm offers and an interview next month. Just waiting for York but it's only 2 weeks since the UCAS form went in so plenty of time.

Several of my DC had offers around the two week mark both for humanities and science.

LOL,
DD is rather pedantic ferkin psychotic about it !!

Offers - if you look back two years on this board you'll find the threads where I (under some variant spelling of my name)
ranted about the fact that DD got 4 of her offers within 3 days
and waited 6 months for the final one
stressful
much Grin

Should have said, having submitted before the early deadline.

Will they want to interview for the subject in question? People I know of (one application this year, one last year and one a couple
of years ago) all had early responses but none of them was an offer - they were all interviews (for biology, chemistry and music).

This year’s candidate (biology) has already had an interview. Loved the place. Last year’s (chemistry) didn’t apply until Jan and as a result of the interview had an offer that was lower than their standard offer so they obviously liked her. She loved it, made it her first choice and is now in her first term there, really happy.

The third one decided not to go to the interview because it was her last choice and she had already had offers from universities she preferred.

It is music so they may interview, although as I say, he already has A level results. It's not his first choice but another visit may change that!

Mine was interviewed for music (with results already in) and got accepted a few days later. Think it was in December ... And I must say, for my DS it is the most magnificent department in the world, so long as yours is the sort who wants to do the sort of things they do there! Where else has he applied?

He has offers at Sheffield, Royal Holloway and Southampton and an interview at Cardiff. Sheffield and Cardiff are current favourites.

Oh, they're all good places but very different courses. What are his interests? Do PM me if this is intrusive! I was a pg at Cardiff and the city is just wonderful for music. Cheap as well. RHUL is a bit out in the sticks, in my opinion, but lovely setting and good department. Good luck!

Not intrusive at all! He has done all the research and the open days himself and I think both the courses and campuses at Cardiff and Sheffield appeal to him. He was less keen on the 'out of town' campuses but preferred York to Royal Holloway. His interest firmly lies in classical, particularly baroque music and voice would be his first study instrument.

York for early stuff every time! Fantastic department and Early Music Centre. Look at the destinations of York singers in recent years ... they have taken over prestigious things like Genesis Sixteen!

And you can be a choral scholar at the Minster!

That's the plan! Sheffield and Cardiff offer the same opportunity in their respective cathedrals.

OP, I work at York so have a bit of insider knowledge! Don't panic if it's only two weeks since your DC submitted their application. It's still early days. I don't work in Music so I'm not familiar with the processes in that department. However, they may wish to interview (or, at least, invite to an applicant visit day). In my department, we always interview and we send out the invites about two weeks before each interview day. So, an early application might therefore not hear from us for a month at the beginning of the UCAS cycle as our first interview day is in November.

Like I say, all departments work differently at York so I can't tell you for sure what Music's policy is. However, as I say, a two week wait so far is probably usual. No need to panic yet Smile

Hi. My DD has applied to York for music too. She has had offers from Nottingham and Bristol but nothing from York yet. I expect it will be an interview because we live hundreds of miles away!! Confused
Her first instrument is the voice too and she loves early music and composing. They found very similar!

marmiteloversunite · 19/10/2017 19:14

They sound not found!

Thank you. Not really panicking, he's in a great position so far. Thanks for the insight though!

Hi Marmite, yes they do sound alike! I don't think he's remotely anxious about it but he's doing a gap year miles from home and I'm not used to being so detached from his plans - my problem not his! What is your DD's first choice?

She's trying for Oxford but obviously that's ridiculously hard so after that it was York. She really liked the big project that they do at the end of the course. She was genuinely excited about her offer from Bristol today though. So I think we will just have to wait and see. We are in the South West so Yorkshire is a long way from home!

Hi Choirmumoftwo, have you had anything back from York yet? We haven't. Just hoping they give us some notice if they want to do interviews.

Quick update - DS has just received an unconditional offer from York. So chuffed for him.
So that's 4 firm offers and an interview in 2 weeks.
Marmite, has your DD heard anything yet?
