I am really struggling to know how much to ask DS about his actual lectures, I have ventured with 'getting on okay? and 'is the workload okay so far' to which I have had one word positive responses so I think I will leave it there. I am used to being able to tell how things are going by his body language, I don't normally have to ask him a lot.

DD has her provisional timetable, to start Monday. Final details tbc. She was carefully explaining the difference between a lecture and a seminar. She has a day off at the moment and her least favourite subject on Friday afternoon.

Getting little snippets from DS. He's enjoyed most of the lectures so far though there was one four hour one in a warm dark room that he had trouble staying awake for. Might have something to do with the late nights.

Hmm, maybe a traditional chocolate advent calender might be a nice idea - Have been thinking up things to send her
She wants the second book in a series for when she's finished the first one, so will probably get that sorted for a first parcel.

I did wonder about advent calendars, not to mention stockings? Hmm I will visit next week, but he will probably laugh if I ask about Christmas stuff! he has no idea how early mums start planning this stuff!

Fairy, is your daughter feeling happier? Sounds like DD is at the same place, though no mention of formals. She is clearly very tired. Too much to take in. We will probably go down next weekend, simply to take her out to dinner. Because she was working overseas I have only seen her once, and her dad not at all, since June.

As for the silly Guardian lady, DD says she knows someone who is already £200 into an overdraft having gone through her maintenance money. The silver lining Perhaps, is that that girl's mother can write a silly article as well and get it published.

Thanks HSM - DD refers to seminars as tutorials. Same stuff, different name by the sounds of it.

Sleep she sounds fine, it was just me worrying and missing her due to PMT I think - I always get more emotional then. She's very tired though - she's not out socialising tonight; she's writing up her notes and watching something on Netflix; much like she did during A levels - she wrote up revision notes after every lesson and kept them all ready for the exams. Thanks for asing.

Juggling, did you know you can send a small parcel, shoe box size, upto 2kg for £2.90 2nd class?

I sent one today to DS! Got quite a lot in it.

Fairy it's tough. DD was never a clubber (clubs round us are mainly gay anyway) and recognises it will take a while for her to find her tribe. But in the meantime she seems surrounded by manic party types., all, presumably, having a wonderful time until the early hours. Luckily though mainly the flat next door rather than hers.

She too has ducked out of joining her flatmates for a night out tonight, wanting to pace herself and have a break from meeting new people. She went to one Society thing today. Lots of posh boys from Wills. I don't know if that is good or bad. She has been picked to train with one of the University sports teams. It's three times a week and she likes the people she has met. Hopefully they will soon feel familiar and become friends.

DD is lucky, because of the way the flats are arranged hers is quite quiet - her flat is on one corner of the building and the others are in the other corners and they have the lifts, stairs and corridors in between each flat so you can't really hear much from them. There are only four flats on the floor anyway - the other floors have between 10-15 flats on them I think.

I've sent a couple of silly cards for his noticeboard - he says he loves getting post from home and its much better than a gp chat or a text though it makes him miss us more.

Had a long phone call a few days ago when I was going into hosp for an op. "I'll be ok mum I've become a man about stuff now, done all my own washing, I cook all my meals and I'm even eating really healthy stuff" - Instead of feeling proud, I felt as if I'd been sacked - job done nothing left to do so was glad when he sent a good luck msg just before my op telling me not to worry as I had done a good job as a parent in helping him make the right decisions and even though he was at the other end of the country, I was still his mum. :) Didn't even bother trying not to cry then.

Horsemad that's really useful to know about the shoebox parcel. I fear I will have to send DS his walking boots for a Photography Soc trip to the New Forest so maybe it won't be as expensive as I thought! I told him to pack them but he said he wouldn't need them. Hey ho.

DS is not a party animal and finds turning up at stuff not knowing people really difficult, but tonight he went to a murder mystery evening not knowing a soul and met a really nice group on his table who are now on his FB. I'm so chuffed with him.
