2nd year of degree - do you go same week as freshers week or later?

Sorry title not very clear, I meant do you go back same week as freshers ie 1 st year or do you just go back the following week

You can go back for Freshers' if you want/need to, or you can turn up later. I used to go back in the Thursday of FW to get myself sorted before lectures on the Monday.

I went back for fresher's week every year.. I was always helping out with fresher's events, I enjoyed the nights out and the fresher's fayre just as much as the first time around - more so even!!

You can go back whenever you like, as long as you can get into your accomodation and preferably before your course starts.

It depends on the course. This year my dd is going back the week before freshers as her lectures start then. Last year there were events in freshers week where the 2nd years met up with the 1st years to act as mentors.

And there can be opportunities to earn money working at some of the events.

I always went back for Freshers week in 2nd, 3rd and 4th years. It was a chance to settle back into the house, see friends I might not have seen over the summer, go out looking for work and generally ease myself back into university life before term and classes started. Most people seemed to do the same thing.

We go back for Freshers, are lectures start then, plus I'm part of a few societies/clubs so it's a chance to meet new students :)

If your DC are involved in freshers in some way e.g. Talking about societies, helping with moving in etc, then go back for freshers. If not, the end of freshers or the weekend is fine. Are they not in a flat/house anyway for second year so not in halls?

At our university there are induction sessions for all students in what used to be called freshers week, all students have to meet their tutor for course choices etc and many are involved in academic families for first years, societies events etc. Monday 9 am week 1 we start teaching the normal timetable, students who haven't been there the week before getting all their admin done are on the back foot a bit. The vast majority of our student are back for at least part of freshers week.

chemenger that's what DS is saying, just thought it bit odd and wondered if he would stick out not being in 1st year, but as decided to stay in halls he wants to be in there straight away to meet new people too.

I think it is known as 're-freshers' for 2nd years and onwards! Both my DDs will be back for then. They also have some introductory sessions etc and meet the newbies organised that week.

I think it's different if your loan won't be paid for a bit, sometimes financially it makes sense to go back a bit later if you're poor lol

My place requires students to be back the middle of Freshers/Induction week - term formally starts then, not on the following Monday when teaching starts, and there are transition talks to help them move into 2nd or 3rd and focus their minds after the summer.
Lots of 2nd and 3rd years help out with Induction, and most students like to get back, connect with their mates again and have a night out or two before teaching starts.

My DD didn't have to but they had 52 week accommodation paid for, so they did. Some helped out with the course icebreaker sessions. Third year they actually went to s few evenings as some of their mates hadn't had a proper first years freshers (living at home).

So, seems to be a choice. Probably led by what mates are doing

I think if your DS is staying in halls and wants to meet new people then he prob should go for freshers week and enjoy the nights out/activities!

We have a returners induction, which usually involves a session with your personal tutor, so yes, 2nd and 3rd years are expected to turn up in freshers week at our place.

My DS will be going back at same time as first years.

He is calling it welcome week, they have various seminars (year in industry being one) and maybe a tutorial. All his housemates and other friends are also going back when he does.
