Leeds University accommodation

Just wondering how many of your DC have had accommodation confirmed at Leeds. DD had her offer confirmed on Thursday, she surpassed the entry requirements and is now on tenterhooks waiting to hear about Halls. One of her friends who is also going to Leeds heard on Friday. Getting nervous that she won't get the Halls she wants (Henry Price which we know is over subscribed)

Yes DD was confirmed Thursday and yesterday got accommodation confirmed for Montague Burton. Not what she wanted but we're trying to get her to look at the big picture- right uni and right course is bigger priority than en-suite bathrooms. Tough going so far ....

DD got hers yesterday. Charles Morris which was not what she chose. More expensive!

Leeds was my dd's insurance do Inthink that was why her accommodation took a while to come through. She didn't get what she wanted - different halls & catered rather than self-catered. However, it worked out really well for her and she made good friends, some of whom she is sharing a house with next year

My DD heard on Friday I think. City something. New one - looks nice but it's not cheap.

I know 2 DC going with firm offers, one has heard and one hasn't.

Leeds was her first and insurance choice (different course obviously) just wondering if each Hall sends out offers all at once?? Still hoping for Henry Price or James Bailey nervous

My DD got Liberty Dock, which was not what she wanted - she wanted Charles Morris, so odd that Hellsbells DD got that when she wanted somewhere else!

Goodness knows how the allocation algorithm works!

DD is worried she will get a halls miles away from campus and we are worried she'll get one of the more expensive ones!

Henry Price very oversubscribed every year. Accommodation at Liberty Dock is great soapy box, my nephew was there last year.

Dn is going to Liberty Dock, as an International Student. My s-in-l has put me in charge of supplying kitchen stuff etc but I can't find anything online saying what is already supplied in their bedrooms and kitchen. LadyP or soapybox do you have any idea? Also she thinks she arrives earlier than home students - 14th September. Would you mind telling me when your dd moves in soapybox? Then I know whether to warn her about the place being quiet (or not). Was planning on sending her with cake for sharing around, but I would hate it to go stale before anyone else arrives!

I've just messaged my nephew Dunlurking but he does have a memory like a sieve! He's fairly sure there was kettle and toaster in the kitchen, but needed everything else. Bedroom he said there was the bed, desk, chair etc but nothing much more. Was very clean though he remembers!

Thanks LadyP. That's really helpful Smile I shall just give her a duplicate of everything that ds is getting for Warwick then.

Hi Dunlurking - my DD moves in on the 18th. And as lady P says, she thinks it is just the kettle and toaster that are supplied.

Lady P - that is good to know. A couple of her school friends have also got Liberty a dock so she is a lot happier now! I think she was put off my the distance to campus and the prospect of travelling back late st night on the days she had training sessions at the sports centre (they don't finish until 10pm) but she thinks she will just hire a bike and cycle home on those nights!

There's a very regular bus service too soapy well into the night, so I'm sure she'll be fine.

Apparently my nephew says there is free internet access which is very reliable (some halls in Leeds charge), plus you get membership to the onsight gym and also free contents insurance. There's a small supermarket close by too.

dunlurking apparently you can order a bedroom pack (bedding etc) and a kitchen pack (played etc) direct from the University which will be in your room on arrival. DN says a lot of the international students did this.

Thanks soapybox It looks like dn will be rattling around the place on her own for a few days then Sad

Thanks Lady P for all the info. I think she's left it too late to order the packs - she's backpacking around Europe atm and completely uninterested in mere admin details for what is to come!

Is it compulsory for the international students to arrive for the early induction? Last year one of the girls in dd's halls was in an annex on her own for several night. Counterproductive to helping them settle in I would say.

If anyone still hasn't heard, the accommodation office is on Twitter & says they are still sending out offers but are offering to check for people if they send them their student ID

Soapybox - I know DD's priority was to have campus accommodation due to medical issues. So she has been allocated a single (small) room in Charles Morris with a shared bathroom and meal card but £163 a week! She wanted Lyddon Hall which looked much more homely, had a piano and had big rooms. En-suite was not a priority.
I am sure they will all make friends and be fine wherever they end up.

That's a thought Decorate When she finally comes to stay I'll see if she wants to check on that and delay for a couple of days longer with us.

Dunlurkin - the bedding packs can still be ordered. I think I am going to order one for DD

Thanks hellsbells I'll have to get my dcs to track her down on Facebook. She's not communicating with anyone of my generation while on her backpacking adventures, and that includes her parents Confused

Thanks hellsbells. I'm sure of it. Ds says her last Facebook photo showed her with fellow exchange students (male), and beer, in Munich. She's from Oz and knows how to drink!
