Who 'enforces' this, if at all? - Not enforced, although for Ds2 some "guidance" may be needed
How involved are you? DS1 Level of general interest only in what doing, nothing really beyond that, very self motivated now at Cambridge. DS2 possibly brighter but not as focused, possibly a bit of early study support as sixth form starts. we'll see
School advice was to leave them to it, unless contacted by a subject teacher to tell us more effort/focus was needed.
A good reason to leave well alone. (And turn a blind eye to the snapchat, computer gaming, headphones, Netflix, etc etc.)

One just finished first year of university - nearly always at her own desk in her room, door shut. Very occasionally at kitchen table. Music or YouTube or something usually on headphones.
One just finished y13 - sometimes at her desk in her room, door could be open or shut. Often at kitchen table. Music on headphones.
One just finished y10 - desk in bedroom, door shut. Not sure about music, probably on Skype with friends!
One just finished y8 - desk in bedroom, or sitting on bed, or kitchen table. Door always open - her choice. Earphones constantly in, will have music or YouTube or Netflix (or possibly two at once) on at all times.
No Wi-Fi regulation, no checking up on them physically or online, no enforcement of specific times, very little involvement beyond "any homework tonight?" and being as available as possible to talk when needed.
y10/11 - bedroom, door shut (noisy siblings), often music, no restriction on wifi (& I don't check up) but phone removed while revising (not if just doing general homework).
No specific times & I don't check that she's done stuff ... generally I'm just around if she needs/wants to chat about work (which she often does) & I ask/she tells me what work she has each day.
Except revision - she hates revising on her own so I'm around a lot more (in & out not hovering the whole time) when she's revising - she really likes talk about what she's doing. She likes to do past papers then discuss them with me - I expect (hope!) that over the next year or so she'll be more able to revise quietly on her own because that is incredibly time consuming!
