University Open Days - which day?

Does it make any difference whether the day attended is mid-week or a Saturday? I'm in the process of helping the DSs finalise bookings but they are only allowed 3 days off school this term.

Is there anything that they are likely to seeing during the week that they won't at the weekend?

I wonder if weekdays are a little quieter so a bit easier to ask questions & see the Uni atmosphere on a 'normal' type day.

Having been to weekdays - boy were they busy! No such thing as quiet. Very little chance to have a meaningful conversation with anyone! Mostly they are tours and chats in lecture halls. The faculties are open or have "trade" stands but can be so busy just picking up a leaflet is a scrum. Some parents just hog all the time with the lecturers and if you have lots of things booked, it is difficult to get the time to do much by way of an in depth chat! Pick the day that suits you!

I agree with bojorojo. The offer holder days are much more informative and you get a chance to speak with students and staff. The general open days gave us a general "feel" rather than specific course related info

Thanks. That's really helpful. Now, to decide where they want to visit.

we visited 10 unis with my DC because she wasn't sure which one she really wanted. we went mainly on the Saturday and then have been back to the top 3 where she has offers for a further look around.

we did start early on in lower sixth looking and I am really pleased that we did. personally did not want to wait for offer holder days before looking around as some that looked great on paper when we visited were not for her at all and it would have been a waste of an offer/application

I found we got more out of the offer holder open days than the general open days.
