My UCAS form was sent off earlier this week. I'm 52 and applying to do Textiles at Edinburgh, Herriot Watt, Dundee or Huddersfield. I'm excited and terrified at the same time! I've never lived on my own, so will be a huge change for me. Just getting ready to send off my digital portfolio.

Good on you!

It will be a huge step but likely a brilliant one

I think Edinbrugh would be an amazing city to be a student in.

Good luck.

Good luck! I am 37 and in the final year of my degree at Newcastle in a Biomedical Sciences related degree. I can honestly say that, apart from motherhood, it has been the most challenging and rewarding time of my life. However, as I am in the middle of my research project and I have my dissertation (based on my research) and finals to complete, the challenges may outweigh the rewards for a little while!

I am hoping to start a PhD after I graduate, so I may be a student for a while yet!

Thanks everyone. Just getting ready to leave now, it'll take a couple of hours to get there. Let you know how it goes tonight.

Just on my way home. I think the interview went well. Small group of 3 plus the tutor, so nice and informal. Should hopefully know by Monday.

Oh wow, that's awesome! I am 25 and have a 2yo DD, and I am applying for an art & design access course to start in September then hopefully going to do a textiles degree in 2017. Huddersfield looks fab so I will be applying there and also Leeds College of Art.

Good luck Thanks

Thanks Mrs Morton, I needed that! Felix, although I haven't been to look around Edinburgh or Dundee because until Christmas I really was only applying for Huddersfield, the one thing that strikes me is just how welcoming everyone at Huddersfield has been and it is a really nice atmosphere. I've been a couple of times now to look around the department and the range of equipment they have available is amazing - 3d printers, laser cutters, weaving, knitting and embroidery machines as well as all your IT, etc. Where are you thinking of doing your access course? I have a friend who has just been accepted on the same course I've applied for who has spent the last year at Batley College of Art and has really been enjoying herself.

Huddersfield does look amazing and has such a good reputation for textiles. It would be fab if you got on to the course there! I'm going to try and get to some open evenings soon. I'm going to try for Leeds college of art for the access course as the facilities are top notch, but if not I can go to Bradford College (I live half way between both of them). I am worried about getting in to uni though as they are very competitive courses Shock

I want to see some textiles! I, so impressed, as a scientist I find creativity absolutely fascinating. The imagination you must have to make things. Fab.

I've had an offer! From Huddersfield University. Just have to get a Merit now on my Final Major Project. Currently working on designing an overnight bag. I've designed a print and am trying to get it printed on fabric, so hopefully I can start putting it together next week. Dundee University have also asked for a digital portfolio, so I've got through the first round there. Still haven't heard from Edinburgh yet.
