Hi,
DD is in year 13 and has done work exp in a care home for about 11 months and wishes to now give it up. My opinion is to carry it on until her interviews (if she is lucky enough to have any). What is the view of other people here?
She is intending to carry on with St johns ambulance.

I do practice interviews for would be medics at my dcs school and always ask about voluntary work. I want to hear what they've learnt/gained from it. It helps to see the extent of the candidate's caring attitudes, insight into the nature of our elderly population's health needs etc etc. It may be that she has exhausted the care home benefits but they need to be fresh in her mind come the interviews. Could she do some "top up" sessions a week or 2 before the interviews?

On the Student Room there are people talking about having done a mere 3 days as their total work experience before successful applications. I think Dunlurking might be right, it's about what they gained not quantity.

What did the care home experience consist of? Actual care or just keeping company?

thanks for comments so far.
Just keeping them company, playing games etc and a bit of art work. I am just a bit concerned if she says shes given up going it shows low commitment.
Thanks Peterneras. I am probably worried unduly.

When I interview I ask if they are still volunteering. Obviously everyone is doing it just for the form but does show more commitment if still ongoing.

Dd was told at open days that they understand not everybody can arrange work experience/volunteering/shadowing. However dd's experiences of that have certainly given her a lot ore to talk about both on the form and hopefully at interviews. She is also doing an EPQ inspired by the area where she volunteers.

Has she an option to scale it back. My DS gave up his in the Autumn of year 13 - he had done a years worth. He got all offers. We thought it was all about how you reflected on it rather than how long you have done it.
