Is this your eldest child? What is she hoping to do?

It seems like one hurdle after another and one deadline after another interspersed with waiting and waiting and waiting.

I hope she hears something soon. (Although if it's medicine it might be a while Wink )

All my DC are now at Uni and I am so glad that it's all over. I don't think I could cope with the stress anymore. Blush

Hi, it is vet med and yes she is my first. It is totally relentless and she is just managing to keep it together. She has already worked so hard to get this far with over 20 weeks work experience, working to get the grades etc and it isnt even over yet! Her friends will apply for courses without the same angst and will all get their offers before her, and she may not event get interviews, let alone offers!

Well done to her - sounds like she's done all she can Smile

My dd2 doesn't need to get hers in early, so she's waiting for the 15th deadline to pass - she has her bits of the form all done, just needs paying for, and for the school to do their bits.

It has been a journey, as they say! How did you cope THATS? And what did your dcs do?. Atia, what is your dd2 going for?

Modern languages. Which tends not to require crazy high offers, so that's nice! Dd1 has just started at Oxford, and doing it all again immediately has felt a bit much.

When's the BMAT?

VetMed Shock yikes! They don't like to make life easy for themselves. The work experience requirement for vet med is ridiculous Confused

Three of my DC are doing stem subjects and ones doing medicine and I found each ones application process stressful even though I'm usually a relaxed and calm person Confused . Two of my DC had no plan B at all so I was scared they would end up with nothing, one just couldn't work out what she wanted to do and the last one was petrified of not getting her grades. She worked every waking moment and was a wreck. as was I . I'm not pushy and I didn't mind what they did but I was scared that they wouldn't be happy unless they achieved what they wanted. Iyswim. I don't think anyone realised quite how stressed I was as I didn't want the DC to think I was doubting them.

Thankfully, everything worked out well and they are all happy at their Unis and with their courses. I'm glad as they are all nice kids (adults Wink ) and they all worked hard.

I think it's tricky for Vet med and medical students when everyone around them are getting offers while they have to wait and wait with no certainty that they will even get any offers.

I hope everything works out for your DD and that it's not too long before she gets replies and, hopefully, offers. In the meantime Wine Wine Wine

DS2 has also clicked "Submit". It's in the lap of the gods now. This time next year he will be in one of 5 cities - weird to think of it like that.

Good luck to all your dcs. Thankfully I have respite for a few years before going through this again. Am hoping the boys won't want to apply for medicine or anything like that! Dd didn't get her first medicine offer till Jan, end of March before she heard from her last interview. Though at least her fifth non-medicine choice gave her an offer straightaway.

I agree it is hard when lots of their friends have had a string of offers before they even get to the interview stage (her school encouraged everyone to apply before Christmas)

This time last year it was me with my DD and mental health nursing. Nothing prepared me for the stress and I naively didn't know that they sat on all applications until February (at least hers did) so the first interview offers were really late. Anyway she's into her (eventual, don't ask!) first choice and loves it. Good luck to your DC's and good luck to you all x

We're with you too. DSS has just applied for his medicine course. It's been stressful so far. He has one more aptitude test to do for two universities he applied to.

I swear this is worse than when I applied for myself, back in the day!

Too blinking right it was easier! I got my results, did better than anyone thought possible (long story), rang a uni said can i do your course, they said yes, i said can i defer, i fancy a year off? They said yes, off i trotted for a year, job done! I was the original gap year studnet before kids did gaps years.

Oh well, times have changed and we just have to og with the flow and drink wine!

Checking in too. Personal statement nearly done, just a bit of tidying to do over the weekend. Off to Reading open day on Saturday. Hopefully all done by Tuesday, ready for me to pay and the school to do their bits.

My DDs is just about ready to go, just getting the last few words whittled down on the PS. She's applying to study International Relations at several Scottish Universities. IR is, of course, one of the most oversubscribed courses they offer so it will be nail-biting. Luckily, due to our different system in Scotland, she already has exceeded the grades to get in but it's still not a guarantee. We may not hear until March/April next year.

Bit of to do at school today as the overstressed teacher in charge of UCAS forgot to put the predicted grades on somebody's Cambridge application. Tears all round, luckily, this does not involve my DD.

DD has just finished her personal statement, now just waiting for school to do their bit. She has spent the week trying to decide whether to apply for Physics or Theoretical Physics - same unis, just different modules within the courses.

We have two sets of UCAS forms to submit this year as my DS also has to submit his. He finished Yr 13 in June and is now doing a Foundation course in Art, ready for uni next September, so he knows he has the grades, but is trying to get his portfolio together - I get the impresssion that the personal statement is far less important for Art degrees. Hoping he will get lots of guidance from his tutors, as his subjects are completely outside DH and my own areas of knowledge!

DS's went off on Wednesday thank God! We have had personal statement hell in this house. On top of EPQ, course work, HAT test prep etc the workload is seriously heavy. Even half-term doesn't seem to hold out much prospect of relaxation. Anyone else's teens struggling mentally/workload?

Joining in but only usually lurk. DS submitted his form on Tuesday through school and had an offer yesterday. He is ecstatic and hopefully a good sign of more to come!

Good luck to them all (and us for surviving it)

So nice to get that first offer! Congrats to your ds, although I'm guessing that as he's submitted early it wasn't from his first choice Wink

Dd's is done from this end, and the teacher collating and finishing her reference is hoping to get it done this weekend. Dd has been a bit frustrated because the teachers only seem to have been bothered about the handful of Oxbridge candidates/medics and there hasn't been much urgency to get predicted grades and references done for anyone else. Dd wants to get hers in asap now the early deadline is past and has a touch of control freakery and doesn't like having to rely on other people doing their bit!

mateysmum tell him not to stress too much over half term about the HAT - there's not much he can do. Better to turn up fresh than be knackered and over think it or not be able to think at all. Mine looked at the past papers on line to get a feel for it but didn't spend all half term mugging up.
