Thought we needed a new thread to continue from preparation.

Yes I think the weekend just gone was when the very last of dd's friends were off. We facetimed her yesterday afternoon and she was actually studying! Let's hope it lasts. Lectures starting in earnest this week

We face timed DD yesterday and she was off to play quidditch!

Have been thinking about logistics of a household that now consists of me and Spouse. For example, cooking more rather than less and then freezing half.

News from the front - received via text rather than carrier pigeon - is good. A 'fab' time is being had, and she was at 'a bop'.

Savage I would be tempted to just text something like 'Hooe you arrived safely, speak soon' in the hope that the argument doesn't run on for days.

Thanks Circular.

Savage - hope it blows over soon. We managed two rows on phone in first week about BF and narrowly avoided one about budgeting (hers obv) this weekend, but only just. We get on well normally. It is such a huge adjustment for everyone.

Wish they would stop doing this, im still getting used to over here lol.

I wont be seeing dd till end of october, ive asked her if her dad will ever come and see her now she has moved a bit closer. She said that she's not too sure, not that he saw much of them when she was home.

My dd says he timetable changes every week, so now im confused again lol

FaceTimed DD last night, she seems to be having a great time "absolutely LOVES' her parents (the college rather than the biological type sadly Grin) and was late getting to the supermarket (Sunday opening) so only had time to buy wine!
Very jealous of Quidditch game Sugar

Ds has survived freshers week, despite the broken nose. He has joined the canoe club which seems to be full of engineers like him for some reason. We have skyped a couple of times and he likes to update me on his latest recipe. Think his gf is off to see him at the weekend and he has a competency test for a job on friday so hopefully that will give him a little bit of extra money.

Dropped DD at weekend, she already has a sore throat.

She was a real mix of excited and terrified. Says she is much happier when with people, I suspect she will not really settle until her lectures start and she gets a routine. It will be very strange not having her wander down in the mornings.

Can anyone remember where the greetings card with Red shoes was from ?

Feel the need to send a card

Just spoke to DD, she is feeling really tired and was woken at 7am to a fire alarm drill this morning.

She said she still feels as if she is on holiday and has not got her head around the fact she is going to be there for three years.

Even though DD enjoys going out for a drink she is finding the alcohol consumption excessive so has decided to stick to soft drinks for a while. Her matriculation day ended with pre drinks with her director of studies then a five course meal with white wine, red wine then port.

Sugar quidditch sounds fantastic.
Savage Hope you are ok, it can be such a stressful time please try not to fret too much. I'm sure your DD will be in touch soon, I think I would be tempted to do as circular suggested and send a brief text.

Also v envious of quidditch. Having dropped off DS last Thursday had to go up again yesterday with stuff forgotten. Just time for a quick coffee before heading back for work, but took DD1 with me, so she feels happier having seen where her brother will be. He looks so happy and settled already. Long may it last! Harder for me leaving him this time though, but all in a rush as had to hurry back- probably just as well, so no time for tears.

DS managed to ring us 4 separate times on Saturday night presumably as his phone was in his pocket and he had managed to push the emergency contacts screen Hmm. I gave up trying to shout down the phone and attract his attention as with the noise going on that was clearly a lost cause. I'm assuming that there was no actual emergency as I'm sure the Uni/Police would have been in touch by now.

Really strange here this weekend as we have DS away at Uni and DD is in respite - it is the 1st time we have had no children at home for 21 years. DH & I are almost in danger of having to speak to each other Grin.
DD away until Wednesday and DH will be late home tonight so I may have a little sob to myself later when I am feeling as though I am no longer needed (although that will all change when DD returns)

Two weeks in and still getting many 'Where is' and 'How do I' calls/messages.
OK - can forgive the 'where are the plasters' as I packed them.
But the 'where is the chilli powder' which she didn't take from home, so must have bought and put away (or not) all by herself, is a bit much.

Sending cards is a good idea. My DD always loved a bit of post. You can re read it when feeling a bit ??

Thanks Circular , can't believe the speed the last one filled up!

Dd is happy and enjoying it. She said this morning that she felt a bit under the weather but I think it's all the talking and late nights!

Ooh we've moved :)

DS seems better after the weekend, been out and about and sent some silly pics for DH so he must be feeling OK. We are going to send him a card with some drawings/messages from other DC. I spoke to the Residential Adviser this morning and she clearly wasn't going to put anything in writing and quickly passed the buck to the Halls Manager so we'll see what he bothers to come up with.

DS2 now officially started reception full-time so it's quiet here today, no excuse for not getting on with the tax work now.

For Lala and anyone wanting to send a card with own photo on or funny thing from facebook, I used cardsinthepost.co.uk. It costs £2 to send direct to them including postage.

Having to restrict myself to one card per Calandar month as DD feels she has only been away for a short time but I feel like it's been ages. This month I sent a postcard with a pic of her with our dogs. Last month I uploaded this which was posted on thread 1 by pp

Hello! Wow, that last thread filled up quickly Grin

Just had text from DS 'What's my NHS number?'
Told him it's on a print out in his A-Z file, or to ring our surgery. No reply to that Hmm

Marianne I decided to cut back on cooking on weekdays once dd went - I make something for the boys & h & I have leftovers from the weekend or soup & a sandwich. We can both have hot meals at work which is handy.

Thanks Chilly, I will send her that as I think it is a really nice empowering message. As Head says it is always nice to get some post, I think especially in the early days when everything is new. I had to stop myself from popping a £5 note in the card as realised that it would start to be expected each time :) and she would be disappointed when it arrived empty next time.

Hope all your dd/ds are settling in well.

I have booked to go to visit dd for the day next month. She seems reasonably receptive to the idea! I am looking forward to it, just hope her workload doesn't increase so much that it will spoil the plan.
Have also booked her train ticket home for Christmas (I paid as I spotted a bargain fare whilst online). Don't think she will come back before that

Thanks for the new thread circular.

Dd is really settled and happy. We skyped again today and she's full of chat about her course. Got a rotten cold though but is managing to rest. She's only been away two weeks, it seems like ages but been seeing her two or three times a week on skype so not really missing her as much as we thought we would, which is good.

Thanks for the new thread circular

Chin up savage, am sure she has forgotten all about it as should you xx

DS whatsapped last night asking if he could come home at the weekend as everyone in his flat is going home. Bloody hell DS you don't have to ask!! He says he will get the train on Thurs eve (only about an hour and 15 mins). Have asked him what meals he would like me to cook Grin am so bloody excited!!

Aww PUG, that's lovely! Smile

I've decided when DS comes home for Xmas the house HAS to be already decorated (usually I'm dragging my feet and insisting the decs can't go up too early)!! I want him to come home and everything be all festive. Smile
