Don't know anything about that hall, but know lots about UCL. What questions do you have?

My DSS2 has just accepted his accommodation offer for a single room in Campbell House West Smile. Looks fine to me: old but renovated houses a stone's throw from campus.

Years ago I lived in the LSE hall almost next door. Great location. Really close to UCL and also the University of London Union (swimming pool etc) facilities. The area is reasonably quiet, for central London, safe and very convenient. Within walking distance of several other UCL and inter-collegiate halls.

Don't worry. Sounds good.

Are students getting accommodation offers already? Ds still hasn't heard anything.

It depends entirely on the university. In London offers for intercollegiate halls were being sent out a fortnight ago to students with unconditional offers.

Ds had his accomodation sorted out on Friday with Surrey

Sorry, forgot to mention that ds is going to UCL. Quite a few from his school are also going there and no-one has heard about accommodation yet. Lucky people who know already!!!!

Whereabouts are you Raidne? Ds just done y12 and has been told those living within a commutable distance may not get accommodation in halls . Would be interested to know if it is the case.

LIZS, we are within the M25 and thought that he would not be guaranteed accommodation as a result. The wording on the accommodation bit of the website is open to interpretation so ds asked one of the academics. He said he had checked with the accommodation office and was told that first years living within the M25 were guaranteed accommodation. We will wait and see what actually happens!!!!

A friend's ds did get UCL accommodation two years ago despite living in north London but every year is probably different.

LIZS I don't think that's the case, so just checked on the website where UCL say all UGs who firm them are guaranteed a place in Hall. The same applies to LSE, and I think Imperial. But not Kings.

Last year DS' accommodation offer (intercollegiate hall) came through quite late. But then home is in Zone 1 so he cannot have been a priority however keen he was to leave home. UCL also seem to be well organised for second years inter alia offering some form of deposit guarantee scheme to encourage landlords to register with them

Thank you for replying everyone. I just saw an article in the Standard about the noise problem with the building works next door to
Campbell House! It worried me as the students are withholding the rent as it's quite bad!! ELFINA I would like any tips for UCL.. like best place to shop (food) etc...can you all get together in each other's kitchen if you are in a student house? Are you allowed into the Halls common rooms? Thank you!

The bit that caused confusion for ds was that accommodation was guaranteed provided that "they have not previously lived in or studied in the London area (I.e. within the M25) as a student at a higher education institution". I took it to mean " lived as a student in London or studied in London" but ds thought it could mean "lived in London or studied in London" which was why he checked.

Ah thank you. Ds school is within m25 but we live just outside. Probably why it came up. He's not yet convinced city life is for him!

My DS also Y12 and we recently attended an open day. They were very clear that 1st year who want it can have accommodation in halls 'even if you live next door'
Unfortunately some of the halls are miles away - further than where we live in London, so crazy situation where he could be living away form home, paying a fortune to live further away than his family home...
Hoping he gets Durham instead Grin
