Ds didnt get the grades he needed last year so is resitting his physics this year.
So far he has 4 offers and waiting for 5th for Mechanical engineering.
Southampton offer last year was AAA. this year it is AAB although standard offer on website still appears to be AAA not sure why it is lower. He already has the A in maths.
Portsmouth unconditional as he already has enough points
Surrey AAA
Lancaster ABB
waiting to hear from Birmingham.

The only uni he has reapplied for was Southampton. Last year had offers from Bristol and Loughborough.
In the end he didnt regret staying at home another year as my DM died last October just as he would have been starting and they were close.
How are others doing with their reapplications

DS has reapplied. He had a deferred offer for structural eng (so he'd always intended to take this year out), decided it was the wrong course, and reapplied in something of a rush for the January deadline for general or mechanical engineering instead. The year out is proving great for him in terms of maturity (and cash!).

He has unconditional offers from Warwick (which he likes) and Exeter (which he hasn't even visited but lied online Hmm.

Waiting to hear from Bath, Sheffield, Durham -- worth a shot but not too hopeful.

Supposedly he's sitting Further Maths in his spare time... but he doesn't really have any spare time, as he has a full-time job.

Meant to say, I'm sorry to hear about your DM, Bruffin. That would have been very hard for your DS if he'd just started his course.

Thankyou Birds,
DS has gone back to school as a guest pupil, so we pay for exams and he has a relaxed timetable. School have included him in engineering stuff, which has been really good for him and he made a few contacts.
Ds applied to Durham last year for general engineering and had to wait until April for a reply they are notorious for making the applicants wait, so dont give up.

A relaxed timetable sounds great! DS's 6th form years were anything but 'relaxed'.

bruffin · 05/02/2015 14:08

He only has to go to phyics lessons. He is self studying for FM and helping out in a few maths lessons to keep his Core maths up. I think this is better preparation than the strict 6th form he had last year as well.

That sounds really good, as keeping up the maths could be a worry otherwise (hence DS's half-hearted attempt at self-study).

I've just seen he's posted on Facebook Hmm that he has a Durham offer. Thank you, DS, for letting me know!

Those are really decent offers, Bruffin -- good luck to him with the physics!

I think last year his applications were fairly aspirational and his predictions were on the lower side. He is very bright and dylexic and his results are very erratic. On a good day he is A* material, bad day could be Es, so he took a risk.
Last year offer from Bristol was in a slightly different course than he applied for.

I dont know why he applied for Loughborough as he never seemed that keen and didnt even look around the campas.
This year he went for some lower offering unis. I dont think he had even thought of Lancaster until one of his teachers mentioned it this year. He thought DS would be a good fit there, it was a while since the teacher was there.

He always liked Southampton which is why he reapplied.

He has got to know Surrey because gf is there and likes the uni and was really impressed with the engineering dept this year.

Durham and Leeds didnt give him offers last year, although Durham kept him hanging on forever, so i think he didnt think it was worth applying again.

He got an email from Southampton today asking him to come for an interview at the unis sports centre for a lifeguard job. He applied last summer (you have to get in early), not sure if they realise he is not there yet so he has to get back to them.

We didn't apply last year. Have done so this year.

Gap year helps enormously with maturity doesn't it.

DS also has a casual relationship with sixth from and just gently studying
to retake FM.

5 offers - all not too bad except Soton who want a . He just had an interview there that went well he thought so maybe on results day they won't insist on . Eng. here too. But he's not decided on which uni to choose yet.

mumahead · 16/02/2015 20:50

Should say southampton want an A*

lemonscilla · 16/02/2015 21:03

applying for Eng. here too during gap.

Looked around Loughborough and liked it. Good offer.

Undecided on final choices too.
