What to look for in a highchair when buying and where from?

I would also like to know this. weve road tested a few in different cafes and so far antilop ikea is the winner. the wooden ones look stylish but weren't comfortable or secure enough for 5 month ds who is quite small.

Go for one that is snug and comfy for your baby but free of nooks and crannies for food to get caught. I am becoming quite evangelical about my babybjorn one, anyone who sees it comments on how practtcal it is!

Ikea antilop is the only high chair to have. Cheap as chips. Doddle to clean.

We wanted one that folded up as we were in a flat at the time and didnt want to keep tripping over the legs. I seem to remember the antilop has quite a big footprint.

We got
this one in the end and its lasted 2 years, now used on lower level for our toddler at the dining table as its height adjustable. It still looks and performs well enough to use for dd when she's ready for it.

The one thing that I would say is don't get one with a cupholder in the tray unless you can take the whole tray off to wash it. It's probably just me, but I find them a pig to clean properly.

Things to consider -do you need to fold it away between uses? do you want it to be used at a table or have its own tray? DS at 16 months old is quite sturdy and tall, so is quite snug in some highchairs with trays attached.

I have one of the 3 in 1 wooden chairs as DD made great use of hers as a table and chair as she got older. It was a bit big for DS at first, but I used folded towels to boost him up a bit.

Ikea Antillop all the way. The footprint isn't as huge as some and the legs can be easily taken off if needs be which means that it is also great for taking to other peoples houses.

Oh, and you can put it in the dishwasher ;-)

I'd second the antilop from Ikea - it's a great bit of kit at an excellent price. DS has used it happily from 6mo and is still in it now at 2.10 (we've taken the tray off, so he sits at the table with us), it's immensely easy to clean and you can even put all the plastic bits in the dishwasher if your DC's gone to town on "exploring" their food. Avoid anything with quilting or padded bits - they're a bugger to get properly clean.

I have the Baby Bjorn high hair as we needed to fold it. It's great, easy to clean, easy to fold, easy to use.

We were first of all given a lovely looking mamas and papas highchair with padded waterproof cushion, and it was an absolute bugger to clean. I mean as longer to clean the highchair than feed the baby in the first place!

We got a baby dan wooden highchair (like the tripp trapp but cheaper) and it was great, we used it from about 9 months up to 3 yars, and we could still be using it now. So easy to clear, easy to adjust as the baby gets bigger, removing the front wooden bar in the end, so it just becomes a chair that is higher for little people.

We've now got a new dd and fancying the ikea one as mentioned above. I have only heard good things about it.
And another good thing from this thread - love you can bung it in the dishwasher!

Mothercare currently has a 50% sale on high chairs. Don't know if that helps. I found this sale through this site which seems to show lots of other good sales and vouchers that may also be helpful.

Tripp Trapp is brilliant and has a long lifespan.
Antilop is good but the footprint is too big for our needs.

I second the tidy diner one of my best buys, just bought another one for DS3.
