Malaria still kills 400,000 people a year, and 70% of those who die are children under 5 years old. 400 million people fall sick because of it. The single biggest way to help prevent this is to protect people from biting insects as they sleep at night.

Seconded - AMF is a brilliant charity.

I have spent a long time learning about effectiveness of various charities.

AMF is one of the most effective charities in the world, in terms of good done per pound spent. The effects of malaria are long-lasting and impact whole families, yet preventing malaria in poor countries is incredibly cheap.

Plus (a less important point), AMF funds its admin from other sources, so your donations go straight to prevention.

(I have no affiliation with AMF, just discovered them through trying to find the most effective ways to give).

I recently listened to a discussion on radio 4 about charities. The expert was asked what charitable donation gives most bang for your buck.
The answer was charities which provide mosquito nets.

Does anyone know if there’s any reason think an allegation I heard a few years ago that charities are providing the nets without education, and the nets are incorrectly used for fishing or thrown out instead of used to fight malaria?

Sounds like a very good cause. My grandmother had malaria as a child in the Middle East and had flare ups throughout her life.
