Good luck Flossam - what ward do you work on? (I thought you said ITU but maybe wrong). I went back after ds1 and I was fine - only having trouble now cos not worked since dec 2001.
You'll probably enjoy it! Good luck.

Dont worry, it will all come flooding back.
Those inatropes, ippv and hf havent changed a bit in 7.5 months!
Top tip though, try not to look at the clock as it will only make you think about what ds is doing. Just get your head down and crack on, it will be fine i promise.

Of course you'll remember it all - it will go in a flash too I bet. I had to do some 'voluntary shifts' a few weeks ago to 'be a safe bank nurse' having not worked for that long and it only took a couple of shifts and it all came back! Thats after a few years!
I'm not too bad, up and down but whats new!

I found that the main thing that had changed was that alot of the staff were new.
We had a large intake of over seas nurses and newly qualified.
Some protocols had been adjusted but these were easy enough to get my head round.
I struggle terribly with my time management since coming back from mat leave.
Having always been on the ball i find it difficut now to get it spot on.
This is especially true on HDU or if we have staffing shortages on ITU and i have had to double up and take charge. nightmare

Oh wow! Good luck (although you'll be gone by now)!!!! I know how you feel about ds but he'll be fine - you'll be the nervous wreck (says one who's just been there done that!). And you'll LOVE being with real life adults again

Not such a rushed message anymore because I have just been cancelled. I know it is to be expected on the bank but I had really built myself up to going....

Lovely, I hope things continue to go well for you WK. I'm sitting here now wondering whether or not to go to bed! On one hand I'm up, on the other hand I woke up every hour to check I hadn't overslept and only got 6 hrs in bed without the lack of sleep!

Awwww, what a shame! Definitely go back to bed, take a drink and some chocolate and make a meal of it.

Flossam · 28/06/2005 06:39

No chocolate in the house! Well apart from chocolate sauce, I suppose I could just give myself a shot of that every so often - actually now I think of it that dosen't seem such a bad idea!

Fingers crossed (on not really, but you know what I mean) I have a shift booked for tomorrow. Am going to ring before I leave to make sure I don't get all the way to central London to get a message saying I'm cancelled. I would cry. Not feeling so het up about it tonight though. I'm sorting out all his bottles then I'm having a nice bath so I will be all nice and relaxed! Well maybe! Thank you for asking and remembering me .

Good luck Flossam. I'm going back to work on monday and have very mixed feelings about it but reckon it might be quite liberating in a way. Hope it goes well
